What satellites are you playing??

Mostly satellites to Sunday Spark ($1) and Sunday Storm ($11) using my FPPs. This morning I played satties to The Hotter $3.30 and The Hotter $4.40 where I paid the buy-in. The Hotter $3.30 was the only one I played and I unregistered from all the rest.

Just saw some "timed" tourneys in the lobby. Anything from 15mins to 3 hours. Has anybody tried those? Are they any good. Looks like they might be right up my (impatient) street. :)

Hi Honeycrush

I'm not an MTT specialist, but I specialize only in MTTs. I can't play cash worth chit.

You saw what I did with your stake, I went through a big downswing then was able to bring it back up.

If your doing this to learn how to win in MTTs, I would say the 45 or 90 man SnGs would be your best bet to learn how to play in big field MTTs. In 45 man SnGs you will go through all aspects of MTT play faster and you will get to final table strategy sooner.

Don't worry how little you win for the time spent IF your doing this to learn, you can always move up the buy-in or multi-table to bring your win-rate up.

GL coming to the dark side.

Thanks RR. I don't know how you did it. I'm finding the 45mans really difficult. Seems like you need to win a lot more flips than with the 9mans and I suck at flips! :D Not had even a sniff of a final table so far.

Woo! Made my first final table of a 45man today! Thing is - if I go out next in 7th I'll only win 36 cents. Seems like little reward for 2 hours. :( It was only 25 cents entry though.

Anyway, it's still an accomplishment so I will be happy about it as I'm still learning. Makes me appreciate more than ever the excellent value in the CC freerolls. :)

50 tourneys played. Net profit of $19.77. Not really all that representative though because most of the tourneys won were played with FPPs and so no buy-ins. Found the 45mans really brutal. Played 3 more after the one where I final tabled. Bubbled one in 8th (7 paid) by shoving into AA and then bubbled the final table in the other 2 in 10th place. Also played a regular 9man and bubbled in 4th (3 paid) running into KK with my 55. :(

The satellites saved me or I would be down on the day. Obviously still have a lot to learn. Going to try some MTTs tomorrow and see how I get on.

Pick a game type and stick to it imo. You weren't learn if you keep switching.

I know that 45 mans are supposedly very similar to MTTs but to be honest I've always foundthem ddifferent for some reason. Maybe I've just been unlucky in them. What I've found is I actually do much better in bigger fields for some reason. I cash more consistently as well. Even the 180 mans I cash a lot more. Again that might just be coincidence or variance but either way.

Also if you're going to get into playing MTTs then maybe stop being concerned about profit for the day, with MTTs you're looking for the big score which won't happen that often, but when it does its a huge boost. Cashes really only slow down your losses more than add to your profits.

Read post confusing hands on the forums, read, and watch videos and then lastly just playing will get you better. You want to learn good shove folding ranges because in a lot of mtts you will be relatively short stacked.

Best of luck with the switch honey.:)

I really can´t stand regulars because i feel last all day, so i go with turbos mostly.

Recommend you to read Moshman´s book on S&G´s, good read to have all the basics.

Try everything and decide what you like more, 6max, 9man, 18man, 45's, 90's, 180´s or MTTs. The key is that you find something you like, even if not win when first try, but look on time that games take, dinamics, increase on blinds, etc. Which ever feel good for your style of play stick to them and study.

I like 9man/18man because they take the time i want to spend on a game and they have less variance vs bigger fields, they also reward a good porcent of the field so you keep cashing on a lot of them vs bigger fields where you need to cash less often because prize is higher but all the times don´t cash it could leed to mental stress/tilt

3+R 20k guaranteed on stars used to be real easy to beat for 20 into 1000..it's not quite effective bankroll management given your bankroll but I use MTTs for long shots. I play first hour in rebuys super aggressive; try to quadruple up in first 30 minutes lol

I understand what you're saying but the reason I'm switching about is to see if I find something that I like/suits me. I won't know until I've tried it. :)

Thanks loafes. Yes, you're right. I know I mustn't think about profit. Playing MTTs is a long game. I'm still working on this. Looking at my stats I'm playing way too nitty and scared. I need to be more aggro - especially around the bubble.

Thanks. Somebody gave me a push/fold chart that I need to study. I'm okay at the beginning when play is deep but as I said above, I don't shove wide enough when I'm short stacked and need to improve this if I want to do more than min-cash now and again.

Thanks Logan. :) Like you, I think the turbos suit me better because they take less time. Thanks for the book recommendation too.

floridapoker - Thanks for the tips. Good luck at the tables!

I'm going to see how today goes but given what everyone has said, I'm not sure I'm cut out for tourneys and this might be a very brief adventure. I've spent so much time and effort studying cash that I don't think I could bear to do it all again for tourneys.

I think maybe I'll just play MTTs one day a week (like a Sunday) and not expect anything - just have fun and cross my fingers that one of these days I make a big score. :marchmell

Thanks mic! Hope you TID.

So my first foray into MTTs today didn't go too badly really considering I finished in 32/1582. The bad news is that it took 5 hours! And then I ran my shortstack KJ into AK and it was "good game". And just $14. Still feel proud of myself for being patient and playing fairly well but I won't lie - it wasn't easy.

Anyway, it was a fitting end to my "Tourney Weekend". I got a good taste for playing S&Gs yesterday and a deepish run in an MTT today. However, it will probably be back to cash tomorrow. No doubt I will dabble now and again on a Sunday but I don't think it's something I could do every day.

Tourney players - I can only marvel at your patience and dedication! :adore:

A 25c buy in for a 45man with a $200+ BR?.....thats not even worth your time, should you not be playing $3.50 buy ins?...whats the worst that can happen, you go bust (highly unlikely) but if you did, win a cc freeroll and you're back in it again...or give yourself a decent shot at winning enough money to get to the next level buy in and up and up and up.....you know enough about poker than playing 25c games...i wouldnt even do that with a 40 dolla BR...keeping yourself back with being an uber br nit tbh, and it will be slow and painful if you keep doing it......take a chance more with the br

I think I should have been playing $1 S&Gs with my BR. And I was. I played a mix of games depending on what was running. Sadly the only ones I seemed to cash in were the ones with the lower buyins. :( Just the way the luck goes I guess. The last MTT (Raptor) was a $3.30 ticket and I used the 2 entries I won in the CC Freerolls. :)

Anyway, it was all a learning experience and I enjoyed it too. How are things with you? I know you play league and the freerolls but are you playing other S&Gs or back grinding cash?

Nice one, aslong as you had fun :) ..I like sng's too, used to play the 1 fiddy ones and would cash quite often, and that was when I first started playing lol...played a couple a few weeks ago and cashed but like you say, 2 hours for a few dollers can get quite tiring, unless you are doing the 7.50 buy ins to make it worth the while, but varience can hammer the bnkroll so you need to be willing to gambool haha....well done though, have you found your preffered game then?

I've not played much apart from the league and freerolls, I had a shot at 5nl and literally lost my bnkroll in 45 minutes....played badly and lost a few buy ins then did the tilt spew thing and went all in with ATC until my roll was at 6 dollers....was fed up and depressed but got my roll up to 65 dolla with a mix of cc frerolls and a few days 15 tabling 2nl lol...so got the monies back...might just wait till I have a hundo then play 4 tables at 5nl but this time study the level beforehand coz I never did that the last time, just opened the tables and hammered the hands and made a tit of myself :D

Aww - Alfie! Next time you take a shot at 5nl why not just set aside 4BI's or something? Then if you lose those, stop and grind back up from 2nl. You've got to find a way to stop the tilt!
