I'm an amateur player needing some advice. I've heard people tell me I shouldn't play at tables with 6 or less ppl at then bc I'm a fairly conservative player and that I should play at the tables with 8/9 players.

Is there truth to this statement that conservative players do better at full tables and that aggressive players do better with less?

If your style more conservative - full ring better for you. I think 6-max tables can be hard 'cause you must play more agressively and with wider range of hands

if you want to improve your game play at tables always recommend players max 9 there is more range , and almost all live games casinos or tables are 9 or 10 players are 6 max few players

Actually yes, due to the fact that the blinds come round so much more often in 6max than full ring, the game plays much more aggressively and you cant afford to simply sit and wait for hands. You have to loosen up your game and get more aggressive than some people are comfortable with. For a conservative player full ring is definitely the way to start, at least until you have more experience in post flop situations, with hand reading and at taking the lead/playing more aggresively.

+1 this is very good advice , 6max games both MTT and cash games will play much more aggressive than full ring games. If you do not adjust it will be hard to turn a profit because you will be losing much more to the blinds than you would at a full ring game. GL at the tables sir

one more thing, never ever listen to someone who is telling you what to play or not, find your game and stick to it
if 6 or 9 suit you, then play it
someone hates tourney and stick to cash game
someone play only sng
and and and

find your game
and gl

the size of the table for which you should not play depends on what style of game you are stuck. table size only affects the frequency of your participation in the game .

9 handed is good because you can be patient.

I think for beginners players could be play Full Ring tables because if you play 6-max you must more think about your opponents, and play very many difficult hands. If you play 9-max you can play TAG and find nice moment for winning chips.

the menu is much easier on the boards with 6 players, the game is faster, easier to meet the players at the table tournaments to play more hands in the same time while the blinds are small

For 6players u have less patient than 9players... Game is more aggresive and players doing lot s of bluff s... I prefer more 9 players because i am not very aggresive player... ;)

I do think so far as learning the game at the pace you want to learn it, then 9 player is the way to go. It gives you more time to watch and wait, which is important when learning.

I play on a free site now that it's mostly 6-max tourneys and I came on to query whether I was potentially hurting my 9+ game by playing in them primarily. Do folks have experiences to share on how to successfully switch back and forth between the two tables? I'll be playing live 9+ MTT this summer and am training and don't want to mess up by playing the 6-max.

Kindly requested to note: right to write 6-max against full-ring tables

So, like a lot of times I wrote it, you need make decision by your own based on the facts:
6-max------------------------------full-ring
more fast game-------------------more slow
more blinds on 50 hands---------less blinds
less all-in--------------------------more money can win vs several all-in
more fishes-----------------------less fishes

On a 6 person table you can play more casual, because you have better ods than on a 9 person table.
