I probably would have raised a little less, to about 800 or so, you dont want to discourage action completely, especially since you have aces and position.

Raising to a little less than half of Villain's stack is not very appealing to Villain. I raise it to about 900 here, 3X Villains raise.

I think the raise size here should be to 800 total, or just shove. Anything bigger than 800 is going to be too large for villain to flat call, so you might as well just shove 'em in.

I tend to lean more towards just shoving in this situation. The small raises tend to announce your hand to everyone.

You have already made the decision that you are willing to get all of your money in the middle. The trick is to get the other guy to match that. From that POV you failed.

Depending on the table this might have worked. I find this is a great place to start an ego war, especially if the original raiser has been loose.

A min raise to 600 might have encouraged him to join in that war, or he might have shoved, either way would have been fine with you.

Answer to you original question. Apparently you did raise it too much.

I tend to agree with a bet around the 800 mark.

Reads and knowing your image would be useful in this spot: if they're a fairly tight player making a rasie from early position and you've got any kind of loose or bully image, then a higher amount might be OK. They're representing (and probably have) a good hand, and you could just be trying to smack them back into line.

If they're a fairly loose or poor player though (and min-raising from early position makes me think this is the more likely of the cases), a smaller raise will be more likely to get you action.

You need to discourage the blinds and get heads up. If your image is tight then people will read your play as a monster hand; if you are loose then it could be a steal. He is also not pot committed or a much bigger stack so he is less likely to call a big re-raise. Perhaps just doubling his bet i.e. 600 would be about right here - tempting for him to call and also putting off the blinds. He will still think he could walk away if it is an unappealing flop.
