I play 3 times a week in live tournaments, I always seem to have a problem in the begining of the tournaments!! Starting chips are 1500
There is always one person that bets 200 right of the bat!! If I have lets say Ace Q or jack suited, i call his raise .. flop comes up and then he raises another 300... here is my delima, the flop doesn't help me to make a good hand.. so i end up folding, 200 chips down the drain.. and so on, so i end up waiting and waiting for a good card usally pkt pairs, so I can make a move.

Any one here can help me out have a strategy to play the first few rounds, I usally end up in the top 15 ... but not with a lot of chips to be aggressive!!

thanks!!
Henry

If it is always the same person maybe you should take a chance of calling him or rraising him a time or two even if it doesn't work out. Maybe he has nothing also but knows the other players well enough to get an early lead with a bluff. If it doesn't work out he may still think twice before he goes for the early bluff again and if it does work out he will definetely rethink his strategy. If it is different players disregard what I just said.

It always hurts to lose the first hand of a tourney or be forced off when you don't get anything.

If you don't want to be behind early, just fold the first time around the table minus high pocket pairs and just get a read on the people you are playing against. You can do fairly well just picking off small pots and stealing blinds once in a while until you get that monster hand.

What are the starting blinds 10/20 25/50? How fast do the blinds go up 1/2 hour vs every hour? It the blinds go up fast 20 minutes or 1/2 hour then you have to start being aggressive more early. If the blinds go up every hour then you can afford to throw one of the better hands early and steal a couple of pots or blinds and then try and go for a bigger pot.

well in live tournaments you have to play through some hands cuz you never know what the turn card and the river will bring you. waiting for premium hands could back fire on you too

Fold AQ or AJ early in a tournament to a raise. Its that simple. These type of hands aren't THAT great.

Live tourneys are alot of fun. The longer you stay around!!! I play atleast once a week in one. Around 75 people. Just ride out the first wave of "Phone Booths" Then wait for good position. Don't let the blinds start getting to high before you bet or you will get swallowed by the blinds

Don't bluff? The thing is not to not bluff but to bluff in certain situation! The only times that i do not bluff is when the pot is very low so there is no reason to bluff and risk a lot of money for nothing... If u play always conservative, people will know that u never take risk...

In live tours the ideea is to get the best possible from every good hands... So all in with AA is a metod to gate nothig if nobody call (this at the begin when are some sitouts)... Later is the best methode... to double your chips... :icon_pira
