As I mentioned to him, I normally just play the cheapest SnGs for low pressure entertainment, but I've noticed I'm playing more of them lately so I thought I would try moving up a bit so that at least I get some value out of playing.

Yep, and nice of him to show everyone he doesn't repop AK preflop but will call the flop bet with a gutshot + overcards. He was in a good situation though as I could have been c-betting, and since I've only paired the second high card I'm not betting the turn so he'll get to see free cards.

-----I actually don't like the preflop shove. I think you are deep enough
here to make a standard bet to 180. As played I think you would have gotten it all in preflop anyway.-----


This is a good example of how even with playing this tourney without any
big mistakes that you can and will go out early. VARIANCE, VARIANCE, VARIANCE.

Yeah, the blinds were only 30/60 yet so it's a little early for stealing/panicing. Not making excuses, but I think it was a combination of playing at a new level, not being used to being at 13 BBs so early, and having a hand that I could get bet off the flop with so I wanted to see all the cards.

-----I like the raise into an unopened pot, but don't like the amount. A mini-raise from the small blind screams blind steal to me. I don't mind the
call of the mini-reraise for set mining value. As played check/folding
the flop is pretty standard.-----

I don't usually minraise; I have problems at FT because I don't like the FT slider; this may have been one of those times that something went sideways.

I'm not sure about calling the minreraise, but it looks pretty weak to fold at that point.

-----This is just an OK shove to me. This would be at the very bottom of
my shoving range. I actually think we have enough chips to wait for a better hand. This is a great spot so meh.-----

Bottom of my shoving range here too. Position played a part, plus I hadn't played for a few hands so when something marginal like this comes to me and I've been quiet for a bit I like to use it, largely in case nothing else as good shows up for a while afterwards.

-----Tough spot. I don't mind the fold. I also wouldn't have minded shoving.-----

The SnGs I've played before at lower levels there is almost no fold equity when anyone raises once the blinds are high unless both players have fairly big stacks. I'm not sure how much that is the case here, and I just decided to wait for another hand, but I know what you mean.

I like this and do not use this play enough in my own game. Well played sir.-----

Ty. The only reason I posted this one is because I try to keep in mind something from HOH about HU, if you check the flop (non-dangerous) without a cr in mind, you're giving up the pot because the opponent should bet. Or something like that; my memory is not so precise anymore

I'd appreciate comments on this one. It's not uncommon to push with air with the opponent thinking "he's c-betting and can't call this unless he's paired the K or has AA", which I didn't and folded. I thought there's too much of a chance he's got a K, but he may also have a J or even a 5 or nothing.

I'll give you my thought process as I was reading through this hand. I think we can all agree that your preflop bet and flop continuation bet were standard plays, so let's take a look at the call that you were faced with.

If I remember correctly this villain had not stepped out of line much and probably was a pretty decent player. You are correct that he also probably thought that there was a decent chance that you were just making a continuation bet, but, this flop is scary for him as well.

There are straight, flush, straight flush, two pair possibilities that are squarely in both of your ranges. He needed a big hand to come over the top like this. I really think that you are looking at a paired K or a minimum of a combo draw here like always. I can't see villain calling the preflop raise with anything that didn't catch part of this flop.

Although this hand makes a good sized dent in our stack by folding we are still in ok shape.

Villain has told us that his hand is better than a pair of J's so why should we not believe him?

Def agreed. It's the first thing that came to mind when I got to the turn.

Really don't like the PF play here. I think we're in a pretty awkward stack position; we're too deep to be tossing hands like these every time, but not deep enough to be limping IMO.

I fold this the majority of the time PF. We'll often miss the flop, and will also get ourselves into a lot of trouble when we do hit an ace.

my shoving range. I actually think we have enough chips to wait for a better hand. This is a great spot so meh.-----

Bottom of my shoving range here too. Position played a part, plus I hadn't played for a few hands so when something marginal like this comes to me and I've been quiet for a bit I like to use it, largely in case nothing else as good shows up for a while afterwards.

I liked it. It is obviously a marginal hand, but isn't as often dominated as a hand like A7 or KT. I'm pushing here a good chunk of the time if the blinds are weak enough.

In don't mind pushing here, but the marginal hand plus the fact I pushed last orbit in this same position lead me to fold this one.

Raising to 300 is pretty bad. We're only sitting on like 9 BBs; if we put in 300 we'll be left with 6BBs, and a very ugly decision if we get reraised or called and checked to on the flop.

I shove this occasionally if the conditions are right, but it sounds like they might be expecting a steal from you now, so folding's fine.

The SnGs I've played before at lower levels there is almost no fold equity when anyone raises once the blinds are high unless both players have fairly big stacks. I'm not sure how much that is the case here, and I just decided to wait for another hand, but I know what you mean.

I think it's fine; no FE and a pretty marginal hand and it's not the greatest spot. I happily push much worse hands as first-in.

-----Another standard play that turns into a very tough decision. I agree with the fold, we are behind here more often than not.-----

I'd appreciate comments on this one. It's not uncommon to push with air with the opponent thinking "he's c-betting and can't call this unless he's paired the K or has AA", which I didn't and folded. I thought there's too much of a chance he's got a K, but he may also have a J or even a 5 or nothing.

I think this is pretty standard, NL. I myself often think I'm being bluffed in spots like this, and I frequently make dumb curiosity calls that end up seeing AK or a slowplayed AA or even some Kx and I'm done. I think it's a standard fold without a very good read.
