$Freeroll NL HE: $ : Trying to get in the money

800 players total, top 63 spots pay. Average stack is about $18,000, I have about $6,000. BB is $400. There are about 95 players left in the tourney so i wanna crawl my way ITM. I figured I needed to double up atleast once more.

In the BB, I get pocket Q's. No raises, so I raise to $1,500 and someone reraises all-in. Call the remaining $4500 or fold?

I called and he had pocket 10's and sucked out on the turn. Would you have laid that down?

How many had limped in prior to your action? This answer makes all the difference on whether it is a preflop shove or a preflop raise.

In any case with this small of a stack you should be AI with this hand either preflop or on the flop.

Considering your stack, I would have been all in preflop.
Make him make the decision not you!
If not all in then probably an initial raise of half.

Now if you are just playing to make the money than maybe I would have raised (or limped) and then folded on the re-raise (depending on the player and what he's been doing in the game so far)

At least you had the better hand going in.
Nice play! Bad Outcome!

no im calling off here every time. U just put a quarter of ur stack in so folding especially with QQ is not an option. U are ahead of so many hands he shoves with and hey its just a freeroll.....im sure 63rd place didnt pay very much. when playing freerolls u want to come 1-3 in order to make any decent money.

Lay it down? No way. Only other option was shove rather than just raising, but I think you have to play either way.

I would have probably called... I mean your looking to make the money... but your also looking to win... this was a great opportunity to make it up to 12000 and have a pretty good chance at a decent finish. You make the right play don't worry bout it! get em next time!

This is always an easy allin.
You have 10BB left > push or fold poker.

He has 15bb's left actually.

It depends upon how many limpers are in ahead of you imo.... ie. if there's a few in there and they add up to approx. 25% to 1/3 of your stack, then just shove. It depends on the table but with it being a freeroll, I'd probably just shove anyways. As played, I would call for sure. If you're planning on raising here in this spot, try to raise 3x +1bb for each limper, if this makes up more than 1/3 of your stack, just shove it allin.
If they were 'smart', 'thinking' players, the raise would appear stronger than the shove..... if they were even 'smarter' players, they would also be aware that the shove will 'appear' weaker than the raise, therefore the shove could also be a monster (<< confusing, lol). Being that they are most likely level 1 thinkers, if there's more than 2 limpers just shove it allin.
PS.... I hate freerolls so maybe my advice sucks.

with all limpers...i think you have to shove when the action is on you preflop, its a freeroll so you are probably called by the tens and beat either way...but at least you improve your chances of him folding if you shove

when playing freerolls u want to come 1-3 in order to make any decent money.

This is why I gamble alot more... I don't want to spend 4 hours to make .20 cents when you can make the gambles and either go for first or bust out.
