I decided to bet big on the turn for protection and knowing that the small blind if he connects with the board calls a lot. The push took me by surprise, but I think folding is a bad idea since this is a freeroll, and we are pretty much at the begging.

SB played 18 hands: VPIP 28 PFR 0 Limp 31

BTN: 22,865 (91.5 bb)

This is not a fun spot and Im not sure what I would do to be honest but I think we did this to ourselves here when we didnt have to. I can I say I would not have played the hand this way but if I did my time bank would run to zero before I made a decision.

Your bet on the flop is larger than I would go but there is nothing wrong with it especially if you will be called doing it. If you can get value from the callers betting that large then its great. I can see betting large too since the board is coordinated but its also coordinated in our favor.

The turn bet though is interesting to say the least. What are we trying to accomplish with that bet? We overbet the pot 3.5x so you will get a lot of folds which is not generally great and what are you hoping happens? If you are trying to get what happened to happen and have a read that someone would do this without "it" then I can get on board with that but I cant see how we could count on that. We are so deep in this hand (196 BBs effective with main villain) that without the nuts we are actually scared when it somehow gets all in. We dont have the best straight and the board is paired. Since this is a freeroll we can assume that 8x could do this but since you bet so large villain is never going to think you will fold either so they would just jam the nuts here even though it is a large raise to your bet. You are much better off thinking you are too deep to want to play for stacks so you should just value bet turn (up to 3/4ths pot is fine) and then re evaluate if you get raised. I doubt villain would jam if you only bet 3k there and then you could have called the raise thinking 8x would do this.

Then being a little results O, we can see the river would have double paired the board and you can get away from it knowing you beat little or nothing that would have raised turn on you. Unfortunately you dug the hole here with that turn bet that Im guessing you lost the hand because even 8x got there on the river.

the turn bet is just too much, the ones calling/shoving that size is just 8X or even worse 55/66/58/68
we can call reraise that size if we pot the turn & reevaluate the river instead
