Welcome to poker. No worries. It's called "variance". It'll come around for ya.

Here's my June, so far, to make you feel better:

I was listening to a podcast where Raymer was doing a hand analysis. Basically the hero in the HH played the hand correctly, and got outdrawn. At the end of the analysis, Raymer said "Well, that was unlucky, but at the end of the year this is a profitable play" That got me to thinking about the "big picture". If I get my money in with the best hand, say 80% favorite or the like, and get outdrawn, I just tell myself that at the end of the year I will win 80% of those hands and will be ahead.

Not 5 minutes ago I was in a $10 SNG, and got all my chips into the middle with pocket aces against pocket 7's and a seven hit on the turn busting me out. Every penny went into the pot while I was ahead. Although it sucks, in the long run I will come out ahead.

Do you think you played all these hands correctly?

In the Kh,Qh hand, I think you overplayed it. What could you beat there that was calling all those bets?

Same with the KJ hand, going to the felt with middle pair, and the blinds still so low isn't wise. You made your reraise to test the waters (a tad overly aggressive in my opinion but not all that bad), and once you got the call, slow down and get out. Is it really that unreasonable that the villian would have an Ace? Once again, what in that hand would they have that you are actually ahead of?

In the other hands, you got your money in while you were ahead, can't ask for much more than that.

i think i did but im starting to wonder.....like the hand with 9s was my preflop raise enough to get rid of hands like J9 sooooted and was it my fault he was able to stay in the hand, the KQ sooooted hand i figured i overplayed that one, KK or AA did cross my mind but was thinking he would've raised more preflop with those, the KJo hand i thought looooooong and hard before making that call, i just had a feeling he didnt have an ace, it was a pretty bonehead move. i generally wouldnt even get involved in hands like this so early with KJ o to a 4x bb raise, i think i was asking for trouble.

i think i play pretty good but i cant seem to make any money, and im starting to doubt myself and thinking about giving up for awhile. the variances come around so often that im starting to believe that its not the variances, its me.

this part is classic....
  1. I rock. I’m invincible. Fear me!
  2. What the hell, why am I having such bad luck lately?! No fair! I don’t deserve to be down!!
  3. Okay, so I screwed up in that hand. And that one. Oh, and I could have played that smarter. Geez, time to re-read [insert book here].
  4. *finds topic that needs refreshment* Aha. Oh yeah, I have to learn to pay more attention to that in the future. (#4 gets repeated for a couple of topics)
  5. Let’s see if I can find some hands where I can practise this. Here are some good examples… Oh, okay. I get it now; I should have [action] instead. Okay.
  6. *Plays a couple of thousand hands* How could I even be a winner before? God, I sucked at poker back then.
  7. I rock at poker. I’m invincible!
Rinse and repeat."

lol that has been me to a tee

thanks for pointing me in the right direction .....now off to do some reading and homework lol

I think it would help you to keep the pots smaller. You're building them to the point of being pot committed with just top pair.
