So i was playing a mtt tournament at the casino the other day and was doing well in it there was about 20 or so players left and all went wrong after this hand. I had about 9000 stack size and i was in the small blind of 300/600 75 ante and the big blind had about 4500 stack size. The action was folded around to me in the small blind i had 54 clubs and i tried to end the hand there with a raise to 1600. I think my mistake was there with such a small raise. The lady ended up calling with k3clubs flop comes out ace clubs jack diamonds and 6 clubs. I bet out 2000 and she shoves and i ended up calling thinking i could beat her with the club draw. Just curious what you think of how I played this or should have i just folded pre-flop.
Thanks

Should have shut down after the resistance. Even calling with the flush draw you could have been up against a bigger draw. Sometimes its okay to play hands like these. Near necessary to be a good MTT player, but if you are playing these hands, you have to know when to get out.

You had 15 BB's 45s should of been an insta muck or you should of been jamming. Raising here just gets you in ugly spots like it did in this example. The villian in the hand also played terribly but that isn't relavant here.

544 clubs even short-handed?

IMO 45 clubs was not a quality starting hand even short-handed. You got beat not just because you picked a low-suited hand but also because you semi-bluffed your way to pot commitment. And never take a short stack for granted, it'll bite you when you least expect it.

IMHO, you only have one of two moves pre-flop.
With an "M"(yes, I still use this formula) of less than 10, you have to push or fold, no in-between

Definitely push or fold preflop. Either is fine based on your reads. If the player is tight 54s is definitely in my shoving range here. As played shove the flop. Just unlucky she had your flush draw dominated.

Yeah, as everyone said, make sure you realize 45 suited is one of the worst hands you could have. That said, if you are playing it, it is only to steal...so shove. Make bb make a tough call w whole stack.

Push or fold pre flop but I'm def calling after the shove on the flop. Easy call imo based on the situation.

There's probably more to take into consideration than your hand and the stack sizes. For example, had the BB been playing loose or tight, and to what extent? How often had she been defending? What was the status re cashing / the next jump in pay, and what were the rest of the stacks like?
