$5 NL HE: Down to 18 from a 45 man sng

I am currently 5th in chips out of 18 when this interesting hand comes up.

Now for background info, I don't use a hud so I don't have any fancy vp/pfr/af stats. But I can tell you that matt has been raising preflop a lot and folding to 3 bets more than calling. The other playing in the middle is a new player to the table.

pokerstars Game #31631181817: Tournament #187236729, $5.00+$0.50 USD Hold'em No Limit - Level VI (100/200) - 2009/08/14 16:38:53 ET
Table '187236729 5' 9-max Seat #6 is the button
Seat 1: matt1118 (4730 in chips)
Seat 2: wren1987 (7251 in chips)
Seat 4: thunda0112 (1255 in chips)
Seat 6: Nevhardwood (872 in chips)
Seat 7: jordanbillie (4215 in chips)
Seat 8: 8MPetersen (2540 in chips)
Seat 9: hauthi77 (2673 in chips)
jordanbillie: posts small blind 100
8MPetersen: posts big blind 200
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to jordanbillie [8d 8h]
hauthi77: folds
matt1118: raises 400 to 600
wren1987: calls 600
thunda0112: folds
Nevhardwood: folds
jordanbillie: ????????

Is flatting here a weak play? If we are 3 betting, how much? Also is folding an option?

Calling is bad here - if you were to call you would be only really looking to hit a set and you're not getting odds to call and try and hit a set. A reraise to 2000 or so would leave us with half of our chips in the middle which is not ideal. An all-in would only get called if you are dominated, or at best a 50-50 against AK or maybe AQ, and throwing over 4000 chips into a pot less than half that size is a little too much.

So I would fold this almost by default, as tempting as squeezing might be. If we had about 3000 chips I would be encouraging shoving a little more.

The only value you are getting here is if you hit your set. You have two players in ahead of you with the BB behind you. What are your plans if an A or a king hits the board? Fold and wait for a better position.

I pushed in this spot because I figured this was a great spot for the squeeze play. Here are my thoughts:

An aggressive player opens with a 2x BB raise, a new player with a healthy stack flat calls and if I come over the top I can't see either player making the call. Now I know you say "they only will call you in you are dominated" but that is ok because I want the pot right now. So they will call me if they have AA KK QQ maybe JJ or AK, but my thinking was, "What are they chances either of them have AA KK QQ?" and also if they do have a monster I still am 20% to win the hand.

So I pushed, it folded around to the original raiser who thinks for about 5 seconds and mucks, the new player in the middle snap calls...GREAT! (sarcasm of course, as I thought he was going to show AA or KK)

He flips over A7 off suit!?!?

My 8s hold I go to over 9k in chips and eventually win the sng.

Does anyone agree on my logic here, or did I just get lucky on a poor -EV play?

Pretty much, its between folding and an all in to me. Calling here is bad.

An all in is fine if you just want to take the pot right there.

No I think it was the right play here since new player was your only other player and you had the coin flip
