This deep you can open to 3BB or even more, like you did in the hand with KK. And of course we should not very our sizing based on hand strength. That makes us to easy to play against, and good players will definitely pick up on it.

Flop
A lot of players get into a protection mindset, when they see a flop like this, and want to "charge their opponents to draw". But actually what we really want here is to see the other players show weakness, and then also a blank turn card, before we start investing chips. So I would not bet this flop, and ideally I would want it to get checked though, and then the turn is a brick like 2d. Or a card improving us like the one, that actually came. As played I would also fold, when there is a call and a raise behind you. BTN could easily have a set or two pair or even a flopped straight, and all those hands have you drawing very thin. Even if he has a draw, its most likely some kind of combodraw like AQ/AT/KQ/KT of clubs, and even those hands have an small equity advantage against AJ. Or they can bluff us out of the pot on a later street.

On this dynamic flop 4 way with top pair we want to pot control this spot- Checking would be best
If we had QQ+ we might small bet as we then open up top pair hands for value but blocking the Jx hands is not great

Betting large here is a mistake it does not allow us to realize our equity with one pair and no backdoors
When raised in this spot we are in real trouble of losing a huge portion of our stack

The raisers range includes sets- two pairs- straights and combo draws

You fold not an unreasonable decision-if however we anticipated the raise-which on this board was very likely 4 way
we would have checked flop best choice or bet small 500bb then if raised-raise size might have been much smaller we could have called to realize equity

The skill you want to develop is preplanning a hand we do this by reviewing this hand on the flop and thinking of all of our Villains possible reactions and how we then proceed in the hand

example
1 If we bet can we call a raise OOP-Will our V raise this type of board frequently- with 3 V how much more frequent will a raise be.

2If we bet and get called what do we do on the turn most frequently. What cards improve our hand vs our V's hands

etc etc

Pre is fine imo. I am not going to get on you for not 3x ing because in game even this deep i dont 3x either (just a weirdness with me I guess) so I would not want to harp on you for something that I dont do myself. I will say though theory wise this is a spot where you should be 3x ing though.

Usually when I go through hands I first look at the replayer and come up with in my mind what I would do (bet, check, bet amount etc.) and then look at what others have posted to learn or see if there is another discussion point to bring up. Here, I thought I might be the oddball that would check this flop but happy and relieved to see I am not the only one who thinks this flop should be checked. I like the points that both Fundiver and Eetenor make on why we are checking here. Most draws that we would face here would know there are some large implied odds so they really arent going anywhere and betting large sets up this huge pot out of position where we are still playing scared even though we are betting large. Really like the point Eetenor brought up where the hands we are looking to get value from include smaller one pair hands and those hands will not look to continue if we put a huge bet out there on a board like this. We feel we are vulnerable with Jx top kicker and we are but how much more vulnerable are 9x and 8x or a smaller Jx so those hands are not looking for a big pot to play in and will fold out when you bet this large. When you bet this large you are only going to get big draws and those hands already ahead of you to continue.

As played I agree with you and the others that we just fold. I hate this spot and feel like it happens a lot where we have a good hand but the board is scary against multiple players and we are facing a raise but if we are going to call this flop then we already have to be prepared to call it all the way down as most villains here will not let up on us if they dont hit. We are also so deep in this hand that do we want to call down three streets on this type of board? I wouldnt want to and even with the turn which helps us in absolute terms but it also could be a death card that brought in the flush if we had called. Best to run away here with this stack depth. If we were much much shorter than we have some options but here is a pitch and run.
