Mid way throught the tournament this hand came up. I have been playing Tight aggressive and have play around 20% of my hands.

Reads: Mr_AsAsIn is a mouse, he never bets unless he hit the flop and has a VP$IP of 18.9.
MathMouse is loose/aggressive, he very rarely folds before the river even if he misses.

Standard fold; stacks are not deep enough to play for set equity (which, being results oriented, you would have hit :().

This is not even a close decision. By "midway through" I assume you mean that half the players were gone. That probably means the first hour. I would not play 44 to a raise even if I was the big stack at the table.

thing about small pocket pairs is that you can call from any mid to late position and fold if the blinds were raised by anyone in front of you.

just as long as its not costing you an arm and a leg to see if you hit a flop, its also ok I guess to call up to maybe 3X BB when on the button with any pocket pair at least 7 or higher, seeing as youre the last person to act this has it's advantages:

if you dont hit the flop and someone bets before you you can just fold and wait for the next pocket pair to try again.

if you dont hit the flop and no one bets before you you can check to see a free card or bet out to try and make em fold, I personally would check to see the turn and hopefully be in the running with a straight draw and or hit my set.

if you hit the flop and someone bets before you, you can flat call now and hope they try and scare you off on the turn or river with a bigger bet.

if your pocket pairs close off an inside straight draw, chances of someone else completeing the straight or having a higher straight are minimal if youre holding 2 of the only 4 cards in the deck to complete the inside straight so it may be wise to call on the turn even if you didnt hit your set, might be a decent sized pot to take down if you complete your draw.
