Here's a hand that was interesting. 2nd round of tourney, first hand I played, I'm in the bb. Had to think really hard, clocke for a bit on this; there was no preflop raise so I had no reads at all other than annuska being a calling station.

what is interesting about this hand? BB special, and you flop bottom 2pr?

You raise a weak flop bet and see the river. They check to you?

bet the pot, your hand is very weak, maybe you can take it down???

again, what is interesting about this BB special hand???

the point of the hand analysis forum is to provide analysis, not everyone is as good of a poker player as you. that is why they post hands here. to get help, not attitude. you come off quite rude.

i would tread lightly on this hand. there was no preflop raise so anybody could have anything. i'd throw out a half pot to a pot sized bet and see what happens. hopefully they both fold and you take it down.

end of hh, 34 in bb

well, I shoved. i was either doubling up early or playing another tourney. When the board was 9 high, I sez to myself, self: prob. a J9 here, or mebbe A9. Well, I made a sort of kamikaze shove on the J turn and got called. Had a little laugh at myself, but then... my jaw dropped a bit:

I gave my analysis, you may not agree.

But allow me to retort:

Y'all better players than me, have you seen some of these DA posts? I'm clearly out-matched...

AND look, they won, VNH...

yeah, was a nice catch. Like I said, it was REAL early, and I was either dbl. up or bust, and on to the next 1. I agree about checking behind 100% in almost all situations similar to this, but the player I was up against was calling any pair to the river before this hand.

If the opponent is overvaluing hands like was said then why check behind?
A 400-700 bet looks more positive than a check.
If you're worried about the J on the turn, then there's plenty more cards that are going to worry you on the river.

Not saying I'm right but I think I might bet the pot or thereabouts.

annuska == calling station
play == bet

I mean, yeah it sucks that two players called, but one's a donk and there's nothing scary about this board. This is early in a $5 tournament. Sometimes you're beat, but I think failing to bet here is giving a hell of a lot of credit to a field of retards.

IMO, the better pot control line here is to bet, not to check. The check has a bit more merit in position, but there's another player left to act. If we check and face a bet, what do we do? Call, most likely. Then what happens on the river? Bet or check/call, because there's no card scary enough on the river to warrant a check/fold. On the other hand, if we bet the turn and get raised, we can fold right there, saving at least one bet. As is often the case, checking can be expensive because you fail to get any information.
