No real read on Villain, very early in tournament. Have seen him play very aggressive previously. I have just lost $ 8k on previous hand, getting rivered, pocket Q's calling my pocket K's then hitting on the river so he might put me tilt-ish)

Thanks for the feedback baudib. Any other options that cross your mind here?

I doubt he's seen the flush and has a T. I'd tank shove too to make it look like a 'hard decision'.

If he were really really nitty I'd just call. If he were the type who overvalues his tournament life, I'd make a smaller raise. Since he seems to be neither type I'd just stick it in.

shove, think you can take prize structure into account considering huge jumps

Especially if villain saw your cards the previous losing hand, I think you can re-raise him, and let him shove or fold. You of course will call the shove.
Since it is early in the MTT, you probably don't have numbers on anyone. If you can't find it in yourself to get committed with this hand no hand will do.

You have only 6 hands to worry about, the A hi flush, or the str8 flush, both very unlikely. I go for the fancy play here and just re-raise villain allowing him to make the big decision, then calling regardless.

If you shove here, villain may not come along.

Only straight flush available is JThh (we block the other SFs), and it's hard to believe this villain wouldn't raise the flop with that.

Excellent feedback, thanks.

How do we not put him on the A-high flush? (agree to rule out the SF as I have the low end SF covered)

Could he not be value betting the A-high flush here?

Also, any comments on how I played it up the river?

Of course he can have the A-high flush. No one ruled it out. Several nut combos can be discounted however by preflop and possibly flop/turn action and of course it doesn't really matter since his range is obviously going to be wider than that.

U did fine up to the river. TJh (very specific) and AXh (less specific, 5 possible AXh combo's) so there are 6 hands that beat you.

Not quite like outs, but the logic is similar.

If you are the cautious sort, you call, if you are the adventurous type, you shove. Either is probably fine.

Thanks All,

Appreciate the input.

I shoved here, and villain turned over Ah4h and knocked me out. 53rd out of 53 runners.... :) not my best result but I did get to spend more time with the kids so all was not lost.

It's better to get knocked out early.

One quick question, how does the prize structure figure in the thinking here? Does it affect our play?

you were 53rd shouldn't even worry at this point, you caught a cooler, shove was correct call.

because we need to play for the win not for the cash, so we should be taking slightly more marginal spots if it means the chance to acquire a lot of chips

Wow thats a great way to think about poker tourneys! I am such a nit in them at times. And look for nice hands and well connected boards. :) Going to try this out :)

it doesn't always apply, but in this case a min cash is basically nothing, 2nd is 20Bis and first is 60Bis so that's a huge jump
