Yes, call flop. UTG will typically be cbetting this board at a high frequency and shutting down on most turns.

Thank you for posting

You should have a plan for the hand before you see the flop

Vs some V we can steal vs others it is set mining only

Which type of V was this?

This V small bet into 2 players does that mean anything?

If you call what hand is V putting you on?

In a .25 game how often have you seen players go broke not believing the trips? Therefore V is unlikely to fold better!

How likely is this V to check any turn?
Then also check river?

Hope this helps

You were right to call pre-flop as you were getting great odds.

I think it is fine to muck a small pair when it fails to hit flop.

Let's look at three other ways you could have played it. Bet the flop. This would put Villain on defense. Called the flop raise. Not much reason to do this because you will have to keep calling ever increasing bets. Check raise. This might get Villain off two over cards, but he might call with a higher pair.

Which way you play depends on how deep the tourney is, how loose your Villain is, and how much of your stack you are willing to lose. Check raise would take a third of your chips, but could have picked you up 10BB.

The call in my opinion is good as it is a min raise and you can set mine. I would advise that you fold on the flop as you did. Yes, the villain could easily have (and probably does) some large Ax like AJ+ and you are ahead but that only means you are ahead as the board sits now with two cards to go. Any card that comes that is not a three, two, or nine will not be good for you. That turn will overwhelmingly be an over card and if it comes 10 or higher what is our plan? Are we going to continue to call down? That would be a bad move so we are better off folding now. I did not even consider in the above that the villain could have a higher pocket pair and then you are really in trouble with a call. Better to just pitch and save chips.

We are calling pre flop to set mine so that is exactly what we should be doing. If we do not get our set we should just let the hand go.
