I'm fairly new to this table at the time, so no real reads yet. I'd seen this guy get a little stubborn calling turn and river bets with a low pocket pair.

What do you think of my line here? Go for thin value on the river? Back off and check behind the turn?

How do you think the villain 'sees' you?

i think i would go for a small value bet here, if he is a bit fishy/stubborn he could call you with a 8 here

on second thoughts, i would check, reason being, you have not got much/any info on the guy, so check it, see what he has and learn from it, you might miss a small amount on the river by not value betting, but if he folds you dont get much information, early on at a new table i might try to get to showdown a little more often, just to build up a picture on the other players

Considering BTN and SB are short, and BB a bigstacked calling station, you should probably shove or fold pre.

Bet more on the flop imo, protect your vulnerable top pair.
I think I check back turn for pot control and call a modest river bet.
As played it doesn't seem like there is much thin value on the river.

Shoving pre would be horrible.

I think small bet on river would be marginal.

I think I'd been at the table 20 hands or so, so he may not have had a good read. Looking over the hand history I'd raised 8 of them including this one. The 2 hands that went to showdown, I lost a flip with AKs, and won a fairly big pot with my K8o vs. JJ, where the JJ guy played passively oop. So if he was paying any attention, he probably thought I was a maniac.

With your image then I'd try to squeeze in a 3250 bet.

going for 3 streets is fine, but if you are only going for two streets that decision should have been made on the turn. so that you can check back the turn and get called wider on the river

surely shoving pre is just horrible???

Yeah I'm definitely never ever shoving 44BB here with Q7s.

Edit: actually I'm never jamming 44BB with anything here. :)

its gross with the BB in the hand, in general i dont mind open jamming 20bb effective to prevent resteals if the blinds are resteal happy, but not in this case.

I was going to add that I prefer the fold, but I see I didn't. I still think the shove is better than the bet OP went with, since the shorties should be restealing pretty wide. If you have reads that suggest they are donky nits that will blind out waiting for a premium hand, go ahead and steal cheaply.

Think you played it ok don´t know if I would make a bet on the river here.

Shoving is indeed so fcking bad.
