I find I struggle to play AK well whenever the stacks aren't shallow enough to be in all in mode. For example, today I was playing The Big 109$ on Stars and had a preflop hyperLAG on my immediate right (vpip 48%, pfr 29%, afq 54% over 73 hands). He had been open-minraising alot of pots preflop, when the following came up during 60/120/15 with him at 11k and me at 7.7k (tournament average probably around 4.5k).
When everyone folded to him on the button he made his standard open-minraise to 240, and then it was up to me in the SB with AcKs. I hate raising here and having to cbet the flop OOP with A high 2 out of 3 times so I like to take the safe route and just call. The BB with 1.7k called the additional 120. The flop came As8sJd and when both the BB and I checked the bigstack bet 480 into 855, at which point I came over the top all in for 7.4k. I realize this is a massive over bet, with the intention of protecting myself on the turn. I don't have a specific read on the guy's hand so K,Q,T,9 and 7 all bring straight possibilities which I couldn't rule out (given his looseness), J or 8 pair the board and spades... well I had the K of spades so I wasn't as worried there. He folded in the end, but my 2 questions are:
1) If I am going to 3bet preflop in the spot above, what would be an intelligent amount?
2) If I am going to just call preflop and everything happened as it did on the flop, what would be a more appropriate reraise once he puts in the 480?
Thanks in advance.
