Ok, so i entered a freeroll tonight. Played some really solid poker.

Started out with $1500 in chips and amassed around $88,000 at my peak. Here's the hand i went out on (19th out of 1144).

What's your guys thoughts on how it went down?

~17,500 in the pot with BB (and you) left to act.

even getting decent pot odds, out of position against a UTG raiser (albeit a minraiser) with QJo, this is an easy preflop fold. not to be results-oriented, but the hand posted is exactly the reason why you fold preflop - even if you do flop top pair your kicker is weak and you will end up in all sorts of bother a lot of the time. pot odds aren't really much use once you're busted.

the late stages in a donkament are more about first-in vigorish and fold equity than pot odds.

Sorry fox, but all of the above is true, that is a fold preflop hand, like DM said, good odds but out of position and what are you really beating here preflop, if you had reads on your opponents then you should have picked up on jon easily.

Thanks for all the input guys. Will definitely take it onboard.

Looking back, it was probably an hand i could have folded. Live and learn.

In regards to reading Jon, he was raising with everything down to 58s and it wasnt even him who raised, it was Fruitbat who was on-tilt at that point after losing half his stack to Ledwhych. So i couldnt put him on a hand. The Jack was a bad kicker in hindsight, but looking at that flop, it didnt look too bad now did it?

I don't think it was necessarily a BAD play, but looking back - it was one that could probably have been avoided.

Cheers,

BF

sure the flop looked good, but with two callers preflop, I think you may have jumped the gun , this should have been check/fold if you consider playing this type of hand.
With a check you may have been able to put Jon on a hand just by the size of his bet.
I am just teaching myself the finer points of reading betting patterns of opponents and found that the higher up you go in a tourney(as the field thins) the reads become easier.
