Villain is relatively new to the table, so don't have much of a read in this case.

I'm starting to think I should've bet the turn... but as played, thoughts? Does villain call pre-flop and flop with anything that we still beat?

Gross decision? You don't have any decision to make you have nothing...Your bet on the flop was ok, but after he called you should just give up unless you hit your hand.

Yep, pretty standard here. Readless there's nothing we can do but assume he's got us beat most of the time, and will almost never fold on that turn if he does.

At this stakes in these spots you get called all the time by AT, KQ, KJ, QJ, JT, J9. I'm not sure that I would even lead on this flop.

Guess there's not as much to cover in this one as I thought.

I did fold the river - though I thought about calling... which probably means I need to lay off the Kenny Tran videos a bit :p

It was more the turn that I thought was gross - true, there's no way anything that had me beat on the flop is folding if I bet the turn, but at that stage I think I still beat most of his range (KQ / AQ / AT and lower / miscellaneous garbage) and maybe I've got any low-mid pocket pairs nervous.

Dunno - I don't hate how I played it, I just thought I missed an opportunity on the turn. Spewy much?

Classic line right there Oz.

PF is fine, the cbet is fine, after that I'm done with the hand.

well your decision on the turn was easy but i dont think you played the flop right...in these stakes i check to him and depending on his bet i decide what i wanna do, for example just call and see if he continues betting or if he checks on the turn or i might re raise on the flop to see where i stand. You know what i mean?

no, i wouldnt have shoved that turn, thats just asking for trouble. Also insta fold river. We beat absolutely nothing in villains range, nothing. We would be hoping for a tie against a,rag

Actually, I beat any ace that hasn't paired its kicker. Note that villain's river bet is exactly the size of the pot too - I couldn't work out if that was deliberately suspicious, genuinely suspicious, a bluff or a really crap value bet...

It was the other possible hands (A9 / AQ / KQ or any lucky hand with a J in it) that made me fold.

As for people suggesting I don't bet that flop... really?!? I c-bet this pretty much every time: if villain doesn't have a piece of the flop (and on a flop like this, it's more likely they've missed than if it comes, say 2-T-8, which I'd also c-bet) I take it down right there and then and because I've raised a decent amount before the flop, I'm adding a decent amount to my stack.

Anywho, I went on to finish 8th in the tournament... and then decided that really, $2.70 is a lousy rate of pay for two and a bit hours work, so maybe I should just stick to the STTs for the time being :p

Very true, sorry my mistake for not reading post properly and being rubbish at poker and not being able to work that out

:p

It's largely academic anyway, if I called this and ended up beating ace-rag, I'd probably still have to write it off as a bad call that got lucky
