I'm really not sure if I made the correct play here. I was thinking of raising it 500 (1/3 of effective stacks) and push any flop; it was the first hand and they might have thought I was some spew tard trying to make a move

I would have pot raised preflop and throw out a half pot c-bet then give up on the hand if there is strength shown.

Definitely gotta raise it up in that spot.

Having said that, you got away from a horrible board for AK pretty cheaply!!

I'm no expert but i'll give my thoughts on it.

I'm not checking preflop there, even out of position. its either raise or fold. i can't see where checking will be of any value. if you check you may as well fold - AK will not play well against 5 others in a multiway pot. once you checked you were never really in the hand anyway.

Preflop: I'd make a 3/4 to full pot raise.

By raising preflop you not only remove some limpers, but also help to define your opponents range - they can limp with any 2 cards right? but what hand will they call a pot sized bet with? now you're defining their range. If they call then you can summize they've most likely got a good hand so you can see a flop and go from there.

Flop: after raising and getting a caller its a good flop for a cbet, probably about half pot. if you get raised you can let the hand go and move on. if you get called you can look at the turn and adjust.

Turn: Brick. unlikely this card will help any hand still in the pot. a cbet here will probably get rid of anyone chasing a flush draw, however if this bet is called you can assume that you are behind and any river bet will also be called, and you still only have Ace high. if re-raised here its an easy fold.

River: if the hand goes to the river then its a check/fold for me - I can't see you being in front now and a river bluff will probably get called by a made hand, overpair or monster.

hope this helps a bit.

Truffle.
