Opponent is TAG so far (~15/10/1), as am I.

I've shown down AK once (limped utg, bet KTx flop hard, won at showdown vs KJ).

Call, you'll have position on him postflop.

Edit: A bet doesn't really give us any more information. He's TAG, he has a hand to play.

I'm guessing you're thinking about going all-in, because you have to at least call here and a raise (to 700) makes you pot committed.

Since you say he's TAG ( I don't know how to interpret PT numbers) I would rather look at a flop. He raised 7BB which is kind of unusual and suggestive of a hand like TT, 99 or 88. I might be wrong and you have him dominated. Any info on how he plays after the flop?

No reads on his postflop play. We're multitabling, and haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

Agreed.

What are your reasons for calling vs this range, though?

Good question, since you're not getting the right odds to call against that range. Your AKs has only 34% chance to improve and your call isn't getting that much. You do have position on him though, that's why I asked about his post flop play. You may, based on player, have a good chance to take it down even if you miss.

The reason I fear the all-in move here is that if he calls you're likely somehow behind, even if slightly. But it does give you a chance of taking it down right there, so if you do go all-in I won't argue it.

Probably the best play here would be a raise, but stacks are not deep enough. It's funny how tourneys often put you in this spot.

I would call if you get something on the flop than you'll probably have him dominated.

The hate smooth calling for several reasons:

1) I hate cold calling for a good ~5th of my chips. If he's holding a big ace aswell, he can easily push us off our AK on a flop where neither of us hit with a standard c-bet.

2) I think his most probable holding is like 88-JJ and occasionally some smaller pairs or big unpaired cards. A pair strong enough to raise, but he's so scared of playing it postflop that he's overbet it to try and take it down immediately. We can probably get 99 and down to fold should we push. We have some good fold equity here. Of course he could be holding a big pair, but generally people want to make a more inviting bet than 7BBs.

3) If he is holding a medium pair, do you think he's going to stack us on an Axx or Kxx flop? Of course not (not unless he hits his set of course).

If we're playing our hand here, I think we have to push, which is what I decided to do - and pretty quickly I might add.

I like pushing as well. I put him on 99-JJ given the strange bet. Would not consider KK or AA. I think I want to see 5 cards with my AK suited and don't want to get pushed out of an unfavorable flop.

I would have pre-flop! Nice river.
