Why does PokerStars only have satellite freerolls now?

How will they be able to get fresh players for the player pool, without having something the new players like.
I think we do not really get an objective view on the freeroll topic in our forum.

When moving, I get to know a neighbour around my age who also had played poker before as a hobby, but nowhere serious.

When discussing with him, he asked why I "wasted my time" playing freerolls and not just going for real buyin games. I explained him my bankroll management and all.

He accepted my decision but preferred to deposit some spare money and not "waste his time to win some tiny amounts". He ended up gambled his money away over a few weeks. Since it was money he was willing to loose, he did not even care.

If I'm looking at it from pokerstars view, I can definitely understand which type of player they are interested in:
People depositing and bringing in new money to the poker ecosystem.

Yes and the least profitable are freeroll only players who play most of their volume elsewhere, share passwords, whole cards and sometimes even enter freerolls with more than 1 account (because they expect there is no security in freerolls.)

Pokerstars probably decided that they are not a private homegame club for such people and other value hunters and thats about it.

I dont blame them but the way they communicated with CC on this matter was very questionable. First saying there will be tournaments with tickets and now they are not even answering Debi anymore regarding the challenges with tickets. Thats not how one should threat a longtime affiliate imo.

They should just offer freerolls with very low value (like on ACR) and/or payouts in T$. So u have to move on after winning a few bucks if u not want to waste ur time completely.

Yes this is the way they like their players to be.
Not only on the poker side.
The rooms want us to see it as a fun thing to burn money.
That's why they love those slots players.
Seen a twitch stream lady that burned 3 k Euro in less than an hour.

I agree but all is good where we can make money.
We can talk a lot and beautifully here, but nobody listens and nothing changes.

Yes without such players there would be no poker sites for anyone to play on. This should be very obvious to anyone. So as winning players we also want poker sites to attract and retain "net depositors" AKA losing players. But of course its up for debate, how that is best done.

I completely agree. The communication on this was not clean at all and indicate, that perhaps PokerStars themselfes dont even know, what they want. If they had just announced from the beginning, there would be no more affiliate games, then at least it would be a clean decision, and people would not have expected something, that never happened. Or at least has not happened until now.

Some of us are making money on PokerStars. I am up around $5.000 during the last 12 month playing tournaments and SnGs on Stars. So even if I was allowed to play in freerolls on Stars, which is not the case due to swedish regulations, I would not bother, unless it was a special high value one. Like maybe if CC had a monthly $1.000 game or something. But playing for hours to win a dollar in smaller freerolls is just not worth it, when you can beat regular games.

Good way of promotion as compared to Cash freerolls.
Unfortunate for players though

Give the common player a chance to breathe, because sometimes luck can smile on the poor and even a billionaire goes bankrupt, good luck POKERSTARS!

The attitude towards the player is important because if the rich man sees that pokerstars attitude is bad for free players, then he too will look for better friends, so this year the 8 million anniversary tournament did not even reach 40 K players, but in other years it was even 59 K and more

LOL do you really think, anyone buying in directly to a $215 MTT care about, weather a site has freerolls or not? Or that they have even noticed, that some freerolls are gone? The 59k players were during the COVID19 boom time. Last year it reached 39.5k players. Might have been a bit optimistic by them to raise the guaranti though. Should probably just have kept it at the same $7,5 mio. as last year.

I dont think these players care as long as its profitable.

The irony is it is a very profitable tourney for the pros precisely because there were so many weaker players qualifying via the pokerstars freerolls and satellites.

While we may not be happy with the decision that poker stars made, in many ways its hard to blame them. They are offering us the chance to play in free rolls to advance into bigger events. While many of us would rather play what we want to play, I can see why they would want to make sure the winning are played and sooner than later. AT least they are offering us something for free.

As for why they decided to stop freerolls at one time, I can honestly see why they would. Yes, it not good for new players to build up a bankroll to start with, but many players only play with the free money they win and bad mouth the site. Its rigged, full of bots and cheats and they don't do anything to stop them. If this was your site and your money, would you want to support people who don't care about you and bad mouth you and hurt, there revenue?

The decision to remove private freerolls, as for me, does not color the room, because it is probably more a mutual advertising move, but as for me, I mostly played there.
