I would prefer cash back, but I know sites always give tourney tickets back and stuff like that. Free rolls ect, anyways I was thinking, if this site just gave me cash back instead of this stupid free roll ticket, I would be paying them rake right now.

I would say you're lucky to be getting anything these days. I don't think the online ecosystem is particularly healthy and a lot of companies have pulled out of poker to concentrate on sportsbooks and casino. I was a member of party poker's community and commented along the same lines and found myself permanently banned.

Really, who I think the same as you is silly but I imagine that it is the way to continue using our money since with a cash refund we would prefer to withdraw if we have gone through any inconvenience

Yea idk, I kinda know why they do it, there is this weird demographic of player that loves the freerolls. Me I'm like, do I want invest 4hours of my life, to play against 7000 people, to win potentially 12 bucks for 1st. And I go nope, to me sounds like I am valuing my time at about 2cents per hour to engage in this nonsense. But some people really like it.

Actually now that I'm thinking about it, I still don't know why they do it, because this demographic of player I'm thinking about, rarely put money on the site. They will put 20$ once per year and then do freerolls for a year and a half.

It's all about risk and reward, profit and loss, expenses vs. returns. The goal is to get you hooked and depositing. They only make money when customers deposit, and deposit, and deposit again. If they gave you real money you might actually multiply that and never deposit, which is a BAD thing for both the poker site and the other "regular" real money players.

I mean, if they are making money off the rake, they should be making money, so if I don't deposit money, it shouldn't be relevant to the Pokersite, as I am paying the same amount of rake. However, they probably do want deposits, as they probably have a lot of elements of that, a Ponzii scheme, within there business model, which leverages the fact they have all this capital, that they technically have to pay back out, but may or may not in reality. So it's like, I have 100million dollars of deposits, and probably can spend 90 million of that, and still have enough to pay everyone out, as everyone probably isn't gonna request to be paid out at the same time, but in reality, the money is gone lol.

However, I don't see how free rolls directly translate into deposits.

Wasn't that the case with full tilt poker?
