Just curious, as I had previously thought in a PLO game you can open raise 3BB preflop, but other than that the PL stood for Pot Limit Omaha. This was the start of a typical hand in a PLO tourney I began playing on Bovada.lv

UTG raises to 2BB=120 (total pot =120+60+30=210)
+1 folds
+2 calls 120 (330)
+3 raises to 690(?) (1020)
BU calls 690 (1910)
UTG folds
+2 (ME) calls 690

Thank U 4 Posting

+3 can raise from minimum to maximum. The min raise would be to 180
the original raisers raise was 60 not 120 so min raise is 60 more to 180.
The +3 chose 690 which is less than pot size as can be done. Anything between 180 and full pot is allowed.

Hope this helps

Yes, the raise to 120 could have been 180, but it was not. FOLLOW ME...
1) UTG raised to 120, which was 2BB into a pot consisting of the SB&BB, 30+60+120=210, as was expressed...
2) UTG+2 calls the 120, making the total pot 210+120=330, as expressed...
3) UTG+3 did choose 690, but that is not less than the original pot size 330.

LOl in my brain +2 calls became 120 +120 not #2 calls lol

You are exactly correct that raise is too large. 570 is the largest raise that makes POT for #3

Even though maths was my favourite subject at school (about 60 years ago), calculating the maximum bet size when playing PLO, does my head in.

Anyway, I hope this makes sense. If I’m having a senior moment, I’m sure someone will correct me.

The pot size bet by +3 was correct.
He can bet 3 times the last bet, plus whatever was in the pot.
The last bet was $120, so $120 x 3 = $360. Add the original pot $330 and you get $690.

When trying to make sense of PLO betting limits, it reminds me of a couple of lines from the poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson, The Charge of the Light Brigade.
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.

Good luck with the PLO. I like the game, even though it gives me a headache sometimes.

Does it make sense to calculate all this? Or do you suspect Bovada of foul play?
