I opened an account a week ago, right after I deposit, my account was frozen. The reason is not given. When I login from the web or the software, it asks me to contact support@starsaccount.com. When I emailed them at this email address, I receive an auto reply ask me to use HELP Centre. I go to the HELP CENTRE, there's no place to contact them without login. If I login, I receive the same frozen account message and login denied, and ask me to contact their email support. It has been over a week, Pokerstars has not contacted me on why the account is frozen.

I googled around, and figured out possibly because I was on a VPN. As an IT manager myself, I do know how software should be built. If you don't want user to use VPN, you can deny the user before they sign in or before they deposit. Apparently they have no problem with you using VPN (or whatever violation it is) when deposit money into the account. They only have problem with you on term violation after you deposit.

Unfortunately, recently the support services have been reacting to pokerstars for a very long time, all letters and answers came to me more than 2 weeks later, perhaps they will contact you again and you will solve all the questions, good luck to you.:)

That is, they will ask you to send some documents to verify your identity and then everything is fine!

I think this is a simple check to confirm your identity. Do not rush to conclusions. About three years ago, my account was also frozen. But after I provided all the necessary documents for verification, passport, driver's license, and bank statement, I was restored access to my account. This is a rather complicated process that takes 3-5 weeks, but if you have not broken the rules then you have nothing to fear.

Its not allowed to use VPN while playing on Stars, because you are not allowed to hide your location for them. This is because, they are not offering their services in all countries. As the most well known example they left the US market after Black Friday, and part of the deal between PokerStars and US authorities was, that they had to take measures to prevent people from playing from the US. Which they have since done, and people trying to get around it risk ending up in a situation like this:

Vayo Drops Lawsuit Against PokerStars, PokerStars States Vayo Forged Evidence | PokerNews

In top of this there are also countries like sweden, which have regulated online poker, but only allow their residents to play from inside the country. So if people residing in Sweden are travelling, even just to another country in Europe, we are not allowed to play on PokerStars. As for your case you probably need to provide them with evidence of your residence and explain to them, why you were using a VPN. And then obviously never do this again, since its a breach of their TOS.

Thank-you fundiver199 for the info and especially for the link to the Pokernews article about the Vayo case. I read it from start to finish. I split my time between the US and canada and was wondering if there was any legitimate way to play online while in LA. It would seem not. It looks like even if you can fool the Pokerstars servers into letting you play you can't fool the Accounts Payable department. :p:p ... or the Legal department.

manliusmagro, so sorry to hear about your trouble with your Pokerstars account, but thank-you for starting this thread. It's opened my eyes!

The account can be frozen for using a VPN when logging in, there must always be your specific registration address-this is spelled out in the rules. As an experienced programmer, you need to know that familiarization with the platform primarily accepts the information base.

Do you know where in their TOS this is? I was trying to look for this. There is a difference in using a VPN and and then using one to play from a location your not allowed as in the above example. For instance I use to use a VPN from work between shifts but was still playing from a country I was allowed to play in. All the cases I have seen a ban is where people in a location they are not allowed breaching Pokerstars agreements with those countries.

I created an account forgetting I made an account years before. They emailed me and said they cancelled my newly opened account, but I could still use my old one. Which was fine by me, as asked them to change my user name then and they kindly obliged. Fast forward about 9 months I get an emailed saying my account has been permanent blocked for having two accounts!! I sent them an email explaining how ****ing retarded they are and then wiped my hands with them. Not to be trusted. It’s their **** up, not mine. So quit defending them because they can easily just close your account over some bullshit. Peace.

I think, you are right. I can also not see anything in the TOS about using a VPN, so the real issue is playing from a location, where you are not allowed to.

It may be the VPN...but could be any of a number of other issues, including bank account issues, missing ID documents, oddities in IP changes, trying to play from an unauthorised location....

I was suspended within a day or two when I signed up for unibet. They were clear that I would not be told why and could not appeal.

The only thing I can guess is that I got a freeroll password wrong -- but I had legit access to the pwd being a CC member.

But at any rate, I will never play a game on Unibet. Ugly poker site anyway, IMO...so it's their loss, really.

Cheers,

I agree with you, I had not played online poker, I only played at live tables, but due to COVID-19 I could no longer continue playing, and I saw as an option to play online, my son recommended PokerStar, and I opened up an account, they did not accept any of the payment methods that I had, I wrote to Support and they told me that for my country (Venezuela) the best thing I could do was give the money to a friend and then transfer it again, well I did not want to do it, I consider myself a good player so I opted to sign up for freeroll tournaments, and I won several, so my son asked me for $ 10 per player transfer and I sent it to him, and then he returned it to me through several transfers in cents on the dollar. And that seemed enough to PokerStar Support to freeze my account with the funds included, which is not fair at all, since I NEVER sat with my son at any table, but their decision is final and therefore they closed my account, something totally unfair.
