It depends on what level of chest you currently are , the higher level the more rake you have to pay but the higher rewards you get . If you are the lower chest level you have to pay $8 , but I have seen chests with lower rake demand , like $5 :)

Tourneys rake contribute less to the next chest than other games (unfair ;) )

I think that the PokerStars Challenges, and Chests, are a gargantuan waste of time, and a major money grab for them.

I mostly just ignore them, now.

When I do enter them, I don't even change the effort that I use to meet the goals. If I do make a goal, (either a very long time, or rarely), I consider it a bonus.

I'd rather concentrate of the Sunday value tournaments.

Even lower chest Antonis (the blue one) vary from 350 points up to 2400. I was surprised when after the long break I get in PS and found out that I need to make 2400 points for the lower one.

They changed cash-back politics recently, now instead of 5 coins & tickets they give 60 coins, which is equivalent to 0.6$.
As Antonis said, 8$/0.6$ = 7.5% cash-back. Actually not that bad.

Yes , i also remember one or two with 350 points ($3.5) now that you say it .
To players like me ( that do not win at PS much or break even ) , chest should be 350 points always , lol

I find the chests pay out much less now than they used to. No more free slot machine spins (which never paid much anyway). In my opinion, PokerStars has tightened up their perks and now have a much higher max rake. A real money grab, but I can't play in live casinos or home games right now, so there is no other option.

I believe they have changed the way it used to be with tourneys earning less points per dollar of rake. Now it is identical to other formats.

Chests are pretty bad rake-back system, you can exchange chests to smaller if u don't play anymore and dont put that much in rake, but if you play bigger and more often u can upgrade your chest to bigger one.

The good thing about the chests is that they also include the Sportsbook, so when I place bets I will eventually get rewarded, not only poker, at least in my country.

So that means now it's 1:1 , not half the rake from tourneys going to chests ?? I will check this , if it's a fact it's sth in the right direction . :)

I don't pay much attention to stars chests as they aren't good enough. When I get one it is a nice bonus though.
