I am sure, they will get this bug fixed quickly. And in the meantime its actually not that important to know, how many players are left, or what your position in the tournament is. Sometimes this can almost act like a distraction, if for instance you have fallen down into the bottom half of the field, and now you feel, you "must make something happen".
Tournaments should generally be played hand for hand, focusing on making the best decision right now, and without so much concern for "the big picture". The only time, this is really relevant, is, when you get near the bubble or a big payjump. That is sort of important to know, but to get that information on
pokerstars you need to go in the lobby tournament lobby anyway.
So what I would suggest is to not even worry about this, until late registration has closed. And then maybe peak in the lobby every 15-20 minutes to see, how far away the bubble is. The rest of the time just focus on playing your hand well paying attention to the effective stack size rather than your position in the tournament.
