How many of you like playing against bots or robots? Do you think they are fair?
Which sites use them most? How do you identify them? Help!

No site has bots that you play against. Can you explain where you heard about this?

Bovada is loaded with them.

They are easy to spot with the instacall/instaraises and raises that arent just min bets.

Once you figure out the pattern its not too bad.

Are the bots set up by the network or players? I have never heard of this. It seems like it would be illegal.

Its a program people download.

Its easily accessible from google. You have to pay.

And they 100% exist and always did before on bodog. The problem with Bovada is the lack of security with these things, they don't really do enough to get rid of them.

So what is it exactly? Can it see hole cards? Or does it just play tendencies and stuff?

Most sites frown on bots. I believe that pokerstars makes quite an effort to keep them off their network.

In any event, I wouldn't be too concerned. I don't think that they can outplay decent human players.

I noticed something weird like that on FTP at some point playing in a micro stake MTT like an year ago. It was a full table and all "players" at the table would call the BB but as soon as i raised any hand even the 2x minimum they would fold and it went like that fold almost half an hour until i was automaticly moved to another table. And i'm sure not one of them was sitting out. But maybe it was just my imagination i don't know what to say it was verry weird.

Tendencies.

They calculate all of the math people use on Huds and bet accordingly. Its pretty lame and I wish they would all be banned.

Lots of bot posts lately, LOL. I just responded in another.

Bots are banned at virtually all sites. Most sites take aggressive action against bots, however some like iPoker are notorious for being infested with them. I've not heard anything about Bovada being infested -- on the one hand the anonymity might help hide them, but on the other hand it also limits their abilities because they can't compile stats on players outside the current session. Then again Bovada is largely fish-heavy, moreso than most other sites, so it wouldn't take as sophisticated a bot to be successful I would imagine.

I do know that what a vast majority of people *think* are bots, are not. Most of the time it's multitable grinders playing a very bot-like style.

Every single site has bots. Most of them are never discovered by sites because there's plenty of things you can do to conceal it playing. I was on a team that developed award winning poker AI and won a couple of years at the AAAI-12 in canada, which is the main poker bot competition in the world. There's even a fairly well known poker AI software that is out there now where the owner started out running a ring of bots on full tilt.

They are on all sites, but very few of them are any good so it honestly shouldn't be a concern.

If you read the Terms & Conditions for every OLP site (US anyways) They all have a section pertaining to the use of BOTS. Specifically that the use of them is forbidden! So they do exist, I've found at least 5 sites selling or licensing the use of their poker bots. Granted most of them do suck but that's not really the point.
Also FORBIDDEN on ALL OLP sites is the use of HUD's & Tracking Software! This is covered under the section(s) about using 3rd party software in conjunction with the poker clients. So all of you out there using these cheating tools I hope you eventually get caught up with b/c it is CHEATING! End of story. This is one of the things I hope to see criminalized once we have legit & regulated OLP in the United States. I know a good deal of people in the OLP community that rely on them & think its a tool and not a form of cheating but I retort; try using something like that in a real B&M Casino & not only would you be charged with a FELONY but would also be BANNED from ever entering any CASINO every again!

LOL, this is so incredibly, ridiculously wrong. I'm literally rolling my eyes so hard they hurt.

The software they're talking about is illegal software that makes decisions for you.

ALL major poker sites allow trackers/HUDs. Even Bovada, who has gone to great lengths to thwart some of the advantages of HUDs because they're used by winning players and Bovada doesn't want winning players running off their pit/sportsbook fish, doesn't prohibit them.

I'm guessing then that it would shock you to know that poker sites actually approach and pay trackers to support their sites? That little nugget even surprised me when I learned it. The major trackers (PT and HM) have working partnerships or relationships with nearly all of the mainstream sites. Obviously you've never looked at PokerStars' list of approved 3rd party software. It's actually quite long, and includes a lot more than the couple of trackers/HUDs you hear about every day (pardon the jumbled formatting due to cut & paste from their web site -- that's actually 3 software titles per line in the below quote).

  • Can you give me some examples of acceptable tools and services ?

Hell, Carbon even offers their own HUD, which is their custom-branded version of Hold'em Indicator. They actually spent probably not an inconsiderable amount of money licensing and customizing this to give away for free to their customers, because if you went out to by HI yourself it costs around $80 last I looked (and would be a poor investment compared to PT4 or HM2, but I digress).

And as if the above wasn't clearly enough evidence, as to your absurd comments about trackers/HUDs being "cheats" you're clearly yet another that's obviously highly ignorant of what these tools actually do. I'm really getting tired of addressing it, so I'm inclined to leave you to your ignorance, but I won't let these things go without comment because misinformation is a bad thing to be spreading on a site dedicated to helping people gain knowledge about all aspects of the game.

This is so untrue. I have long term relationships with both major poker database companies, and have sat in on meetings with pokerstars and other major poker sites. They all support and encourage these companies because it brings them more business. The only one that doesn't is bovada, because they want to "even the playing field" for all players and protect their customers by making everything anonymous. In other words they wanted to create the best environment for collusion possible on the internet, which is the best way to protect your customers as you know. ;)

The comment on being banned and felony in brick in mortar was humorous though. Players have been making notes and using iphones to track stats for years. Gathering information and how you use it are completely different.

The behaviour you describe is that of players who are sitting out, not that of bots. The FTP software does not explicity identify players who are sitting out. It quickly becomes obvious, though, because these players will check on every street and fold to any bet.

Touche' Dmo, well, there went everything i WASSSSS gonna post. Took them words right outta my mouth. Lol i believe that some posts are the reincarnation of a rogue misconception's seemingly unending persistence, and the effects of some kind of herbal vapor delivery device. In hillbilly slang, you have that old azz news all scrambled up there Sykoman. The Gentlemanly way to avoid getting credit for some questionable caveats clearly calls for the poster to insert this banner---"quoted by soandso on the forum soandso. That way, if a post is posted prior to proper preponderance and sucks, you can point to that banner,eh?? :hmmmm:

Thanks for your responses. I was pretty ignorant about the subject and now I have a greater understanding. Another question, do bots automatically call if they hit the flop? Any other tendencies besides calling bb ? Do they tend to protect their button too?

Every site I've played has given me the feeling that I'm playing bots. To many coincidences and the timing of these coincidences. I believe the bots are more-so in the everyday tournaments than anything else. Also in most every tournament I've played I notice some of the smaller Stacks start getting pushed out of the tournament. I believe due to time restraints in running time of the tournament. I just finished the tournament today and I know it's always possible but I had Ace King in the small blind and player on the dealer button could have been trying to bluff and just buy the small and big blind cuz he had five four off suit and went all-in and his chip stack had me covered just buy a little and I was two two places away from making the money. I mean it could happen either way. I've bet that way before and been caught however I sure don't see it as much while playing live poker at least not this often. I think it's possible that the algorithm in these websites poker application start to have trends after so many rounds of poker. I feel rewarded for good play a lot of the time. And I've noticed this since the PokerStars days back when everyone could play. The worst I ever really noticed was Full Tilt that place felt loaded with Bots and everybody started talking that might be happening there. Now Bovada gives me a similar vibe just not as bad as full tilt did. If you look at Live Events and the number of people in satellites and compare them 2 some of these everyday guaranteed tournaments you'll notice not as many people playing in some of the main events. Now this is all my opinion and observation from playing that every poker site I can find pretty much. But when you play a live event weather online or at a casino, it doesn't have the same field has these everyday guaranteed tournaments. At least to me it doesn't feel as programmed. I've never been the one to cry Bots every time I lose a tournament from a bad hand or a bad beat it's just that with the information that is used to help control everyone's account for example the info that is used to help keep up with all the players stats from playing time to flops seen and so on. It is possible that it could be keeping up with your trends and if there are Bots that would be pretty tough to win during certain . Here's a good example. These beginner tournaments or first time players and free rolls not that many people are signing up every day and that's obvious due to how many people are in the cash games and on the site anyways because players would be pouring in and there would be many more people playing. Beginner tournaments on a couple sites that allows anyone to join you'll notice the play style is wicker witch if all these people are new players would make sense but even if you are a new player beginner you can get away with being more erratic there with your calls and with looseness in your play. I've actually been playing a couple of these beginner tournaments and I've Ben trying different things to see how it would reward me and I felt like the better I played after some erratic Behavior they rewarded me more and as a result if I just played a loose and Oddball hands and stuff I normally wouldn't do it would keep me around and I wouldn't make the money but I would come close so maybe it's just me but I still love to play poker on these sites it is a frustrating game but the coincidences are just too noticeable and will always bother me at these online sites. The brains of these poker sites definitely knows how you play because it keeps up with your stats so you can check them out yourself and see how you have played. So it has that info there, plus running time and your chip stack not to forget how much u have deposited and withdrawn and with all the other details it holds, I do believe there are bots to fill positions in some of these games and make the poker rooms look a little more active and full. These are the things the cross my mind while playing make sure some of you half price at the same time to time. #TOOMANYCOINCIDENCES

I have had similar things happen. Happened yesterday also tbf on partypoker. It might just be me being suspicious but strange calls and/or folds make you think...
