I just returned from a 10 day crusie where they had a poker table on board. The nightly game was 2$/4$ Limit. and one evening they had NL tournies. I have played on line for a few years and played at a few casinos. Actually going to Niagara Falls in 2 weeks to meet some Poker Buddies.
I prefer live Poker any day and I do better Live than on line

I have 20 hands worth of experience with casino poker, so I feel confident in telling you that live poker sucks balls.

Takes a long time to get there, you have to wait considerable time on a waiting list, the action is slow, and the room is smoke filled. The fact that live 3/6 play is comparable to online $.01/$.02 tables in general skill of the players doesn't make up for it.

/rant off.

Less than ten minutes drive from my house, the tourney starts at 8pm so no waiting just turn up and register at five to eight, yes the action is slow especially if you multitable online, and smokers have to go out onto a cold and windy balcony to smoke during breaks in the tourney. Rake is higher than online tournies, which is a disadvantage.

They have just started cash tables but I haven't tried them yet, so I'm not sure about waiting times or skill level there, but there definitely won't be any smoking.

It's also an enjoyable social activity - unlike the online game.

Is online play the same as live play? I think live poker is better than online poker because people play hands online that they wouldn't in a live game.

Some good responses to your question....

Online is definitely a different game from Live for the reasons some mentioned above. But since Live varies quite a bit from City to City and State to State, it is quite right to to also ask is LA Live Poker the same as Atlantic City Live Poker...The truth is it is quite a bit different

I love both online and live poker

Banning smoking is awesome. Seriously, if there's one thing I can't handle anymore, it's cigarette smoke. And I used to be a smoker myself.

I can see how it can be a social thing. I didn't mean to drag everyone else down with me in my bitterness over my shitty casino experience, heh.

Why does everyone like live poker so much? Its rigged. Just cause I say so ,and cause my fullhouse has been beaten by a two outer to a straight flush :D

You shouldn't, you know deep inside you that its rigged :D

On a serious note, the little that I have played live, my luck has been bad enough that I would vote for live poker to be rigged before online poker :). Obviously good players know that neither is more rigged than the other.

I started out many yrs ago playing stud and lo ball and some other versions of poker that you don't see much of anymore and I was pretty successful. I've only been playing holdem for about 2 yrs, all on the internet and so far have'nt had the same luck, slowly but surely my small bankrolls get ground down.
