Money transfer; why not deposit?

DM's question thread about why so many people want out of FT led me to wonder, why do so many people want to transfer instead of making a deposit?

I've thought about transferring; it's much faster and easier and maybe even cheaper (as a requester I would offer to pay the transferee a little extra for their help). And as a Canadian I've lost my ability to use my neteller account for poker so I'd have to start new.

But most sites offer deposit bonuses, especially for first time depositors. Doesn't it make more sense to make the deposit so you can collect the bonus? I guess if you're just planning to play casually at the new site and don't think you're going to make the bonus it makes sense, but otherwise 100% bonus on even just $50 is going to more than cover you transfer costs?

Its because we have the money at a site we dont play at. Why deposit when you have money sitting somewhere else that your never going to use?

Most of the requests come from people who are not making first deposits. They probably have money at a site they don't play at much and would prefer to move it to a site they play a lot at.

Also they might want to play right away rather than go through the hassle of what we yanks have to go through to make a deposit.

Ah, this makes sense and is something I hadn't considered. So you've got money on both sites, but more on one than you need and less on the other. And the reload bonuses are not as healthy or frequent as the first deposit bonuses.

Thanks all. :)
