I have been a poker addict for many years. I played an awfull lot of internet poker for fun and won a lot of tournaments. I still have a lot of trophys from winning yearly finals. Now it has been a while since I have played a lot but I recently joined Empire Poker and have been doing real well in the play money rooms, I finish top 3 most of the games I played.

The questions I have are, is there a lot of money to be made on such site? and anyone have any tips on how to get started without losing the house? LOL I also can't find anywhere on that site that explains how the buy ins work. What I mean is in play money rooms when you see a 55/5 room means you need 55 to enter and 5 for your entree fees but how about the max bet ect ect. Seems like to real money room are run differently thats all.

Maybe I need an internet poker for dummies book or something. LOL

Right then,

Basically the buy in for tournaments work the same way so 55 +5 means that you pay 60 5 of which goes to the site (how they make money) and the 55 from each player goes into making the prize pool, which is then shared out between places 1st to whatever depending on the number of entrants

As for maximum bets and stuff well thats down to the game you are playing, no limit holdem well there aren't any limits, a $1/2 will have blinds of 1 and 2 and then normal no limit betting rules

Its basically the rules are the same as play money, you will find the game is a lot different from play money with the approach people take, they play differently and somewhat smarter than most the play money people. When its your own money your losing people smarten up a lot quicker, well most of them do anyway ;]

Best way to start out is to sit down at the table with a certain amount and say to yourself if you lose that then you will stop playing until you can afford to put some more in next week/month or whatever

There is money to be made on every site, personally I recommend partypoker as its the biggest site online with the most players, meaning you are more likely to find a table at the limits and at whatever game you are playing

Ireally like the software of fulltiltpoker.com but there is no way to cash in and out with a UK debit card. So basically that means cashing out from there is more hassle from a UK standpoint. If your american though no bother.

Otherwise play and cash games use exactly the same rules, just that if you lose then its coming out of your pocket, but if you win, well then you can go spend other peoples money ;]

Sit and Go's

The sit and go's are definatly the way to play, they have a set buy in and just a small fee goes to the actual poker site. Either play those or bigger tournaments. I suggest staying away from the ring games, as you will find you can lose a lot of money fast in those.

yes

definitly sit and go's with the occasional freerolls, i find the sitngo rooms really easy to win and theres usualy only 6 players which makes it easier to read every one. noblepoker is it :)

Yes SnG's is really a good deal.
All you have to do is fold and let the others take out eachother, and you only play premium hands. Nearly almost all the time I finish "in the money" with this simple strategy.. :icon_thum

Play in as many freerolls as possible. I've finished well in a number of them and have been able to play (And pull off) money without depositing anything.

Agreed

Hi all,
I agree with all the advice given to you in this thread, I started off at the freerolls on about 10 different poker sites, still do but I deposit as well now when I need to, once you can come in the money on a regular basis then use your winnings to enter some of the low sit-n-go's.
There are poker rooms which have sit-n-go's with as little as 5 people and pay 3 places so you can basically sit out or just play your blinds until two go out, it's a gradual way of building your bankroll.
I now play $5 and $10 sit-n-go's and do ok, i've tried on several occassions to go up to $20 and $30 but can't win consistently enough to stay with them.
I love playing poker and it's an excellent bonus when you can make a little money as well.
Best advice I can give to you: Don't try moving up to higher stake sit-n-go's until your at least coming in the money 75% or more of the time or at least 3 out of every 4 tourneys.
Good luck at the tables,
Tony ( The Webmaster )

Action on play money tables is definitely not like action on real money tables. I'd play low level tables until you are completely familiar with the tables, how everything operates, etc.

Freerolls

Yeah, like they said above, the best way is to do a few freerolls and then use that money to bankroll you in smaller tournaments. If you are really a consistent winner like you said you should have no problem generating a tidy sum.

be careful

you sound like an avid player, but that is in free play money games, when you talking abou real money, everything is changed. Start off in a lo money table to see how you like it. online poker has its ups and real low downs. i prefer playing in live games, but online is a good way to make money too.

You can play 1 and 2 cent blinds at pokerstars to warm up before moving on to higher stakes.

I'll give you an advice. Don't play on 0.02$/0.04$ tables. Start playing in 0.05$/0.1$ This advice helped to many people. I think you should trust me at this point, cuz never become rich playing with small stakes. Believe me I say the truth..
