...how much money should you bring?

That's always the easiest answer:

As much as you can afford to lose.

...what are the blinds in cash games? do the blinds go up?

Well, if you don't know yet that blinds don't go up in cash games, then definitely only bring as much money as you can afford to lose. ;)

Gotta wonder about a poll, resurrected from the dead, about live play.

I think a poll should be always open, for new member to vote. This way you get more accurate results (and right now there's really only 45 votes). It was not my intention to resurrect an old thread. I simply put my vote and made a quick intro comment.

When I am at school which is 3/4 of the year I am playing about 3 times a week at Casino Arizona. Other than that a once in awhile home game tournament, but that is really soft and usually a buy in for $10.

I play live local tournaments weekly, mostly low buy ins and freerolls.

Sometimes me and some friends gather for poker play..buy in is usually $20. Add that up with about 8 -10 people and u get a healthy amount. Only top 2 gets paid...:D

have to really play online to get a game. All my friends either play every once in a while (a long while) because their interested isn't that strong, or when we want to get a game going every week, it's only about 3 of us who are dedicated, and the rest are whimsical about it after week 1 or 2. When we do get a game together, it's usually buy in's with a set max (usually 5 bucks) and you can cash out at any time. Generally people either bust out or we all cash out at around the same time. The problem is these people are pure novice to new levels, i've been called or have seen calls and bets with the worst hands, it makes novice players online look smart. Normally I clean up (take about 27 bucks?) but after that they dont want to play again for a long time =P, and there's always a chance i'll get busted by pure luck

I play about 2 or 3 times a week with friends and i play higher stakes with them than i do online. But i have only ever played in a casino twice.

(oops! I accidentally voted for once or twice a year.)

i wish i could play casinos. I dont know if it's just me, but I find ring games online much harder than ring games in real life between friends or even people i've never really played with at all before (Friends of friends). Maybe it's because i play a lot of quality people online (although people might say contrary for FT ring games at the cent level ;) ) or it's just the feel. Anyone know what Im talking about? I feel that i can comfortably play 20 dollar buy in's with 1/2 blinds or higher in real life, but I'm too afraid right now to venture to the .50-1$ tables online! Im still a novice in many ways, but I feel better playing in person with much higher stakes than online.

the only exception being online tournaments, I do really well in those compared to my online ring game play =P
