So I noticed yesterday that some of the tournaments with Buy ins of $50 +5 did not cover the guarantee, by alot! I'm thinking this is very tempting to jump on board and shoot for some of that FREE money.

I usually play micro games, up to $6.60 buy ins. I will play special events ie. OSS series up to $16.50, with varied success.

I have played live games up to $1200 BI

Should I give it a shot or, stop looking at those games above my BR.

Are they loaded with sharks or do you think a NIT such as myself has a shot at a big score?

Really tempted. A good example is today's Special $80,000 guarantee, $55 BI has about an hour of late registration and is more than $30,000 short of the guarantee.

Any thoughts?????

Personally I would normally say you should not go outside your bankroll. This being said, I saw you play at the wsop last year and know you can play against those players. If you can afford the loss I say go for it if the over lay is that good

Thanks Ken. The registration is a little too late for me in today's game. I think I will definitely take a shot at maybe 2 or 3 of these coming up. Too tempting with all that free $$$$$$$

I hope you do well George when you do play them. I see one I would like to play as well but could I really play until tomorrow morning and take care of the kids tomorrow? LOL If I only had more time.

The thing with overlay is, you dont know, how large it will be, until late registration is nearly over. And if you wait and enter in the last minute, you will start with a 10BB stack, which substantially reduce your skill edge. So I dont think, this overrides sound bankroll management. But that being said if a tournament is just slightly outside your bankroll and has a good chance of ending with an overlay, then why not go for it. But for me that would be something like jumping on a 22$ rather than a 12$, not a 55$ rather than a 12$.

While I am usually playing in similar stakes as you , mostly I play up to $16.60 but in the OSS I may go higher. I do not see major differences when I jump into the $55 events. Obviously you may run into a few better players that are playing professionally, you also have likely seen them in the $16.60.

That being said with such a massive overlay it may be well worth the extra value if the bankroll permits. I never would recommend playing if you were going to bust your online roll. But if your playing well and can sustain the hit if it’s not a winning tournament then go for it. You actually will see that many hands play the same as your daily games.

I do not play more than 6.60$ on ACR , maybe once or twice in the past more money , for bankroll and above all for low skills reasons ;)

But most important I think is to have strict bankroll management , even in such great opportunities with big prizes and overlays , when players are tempted a lot to play these games . Also , the bigger buyin games are infested with many sharks , who have great moves/calls/shoves in their arsenal , have no doubt about it :)

A ton of the micro stakes tournaments on ACR have been having overlays, sometimes by a huge margin. Don't know if you play on ACR, put it's been a nice opportunity for us lower stakes players since the recent tournament offering changes that started about 1-2 months ago.

I do play on ACR and have seen the overlays. I just noticed that the $55 buy in games had huge overlays. There was one that had a guarantee of 80K and had buy ins of $68,00.
That's a lot of free money.
I will be jumping in on this band wagon as soon as I have the right amount of time.

I may even set up a stake here!

Stay tuned.

Thanks for the info. I never checked this kind of topic.
Ok its always speculative, because of the long late registration phase.
And I dont want to play too shortstacked, if i wait too long.
But I will look at such potential overlay tourneys and give it a shot!

Yeah Hugh, I am watching these games closely. Right now, I don't have the time to play these for 8 or 9 hours. As soon as summer is done, around the middle of October, sooner I hope, I'll be setting up some of these.

May be a stake coming for a few of these seeing as my casino has it's poker room closed
(due to covid)

I will do a few on my own first though.

I think these games are loaded with sharks in at least at the micro level. It's very tempting for anybody from any level to take a shot at winning $600-700. with only a $3 bet. I've noticed how tough it is to get my money in against these guys/gals.

But on the plus side it is an opportunity to get used to going up against higher-level players. :)
