So a couple weeks ago I made a post asking about "throwables" and if you use them and why. I got a bunch of great responses......

So that lead me to think about badges. Do you show your highest badge? Do you show any? Do you ever change the one you show? Does someone elses badge make you play them a little different.

I have noticed a lot of skilled players posting lower badges then what I believe they really are and have proven this in my note taking on them, then playing them again later when they have upped their badge display. I will respect someones play who a really high badge more than I will someone who doesn't show or shows a low badge. Or better yet if they show a tournament winner badge.

I personally have never shown mine. My badge is stuck and has not updated, I am probably 2 behind what it is really supposed to be. I think if I won a tournament and had the option to display that badge I probably would at times. More of a badge of honour than anything I guess.

I do not like to show any badges, trophies, levels, etc. If a player wants to do research on me they can use sharkscope, but I am not going help out their research.

The bolded part in your post is the exact reason the only badge I show at Stars is the lowest possible the 22, not saying what my highest is but the few times I do get time to play a decent buy in I get a lot of light shoves at my raises, could be to do with what badge is showing or maybe they just (rightly) think I'm a donk anyway.

Not for me, i don't see the point. I also don't base my decisions on what kind of badges i see at the table.

I like the idea:cool:

I only use the higher badges (77+) of the other players on the tables to mark them regs

The good thing about badges is that you can vary them depending on what level of table you are sitting at (micro, low, medium or high). For example, when I take a note about someone, I always write down what badge is exposed, and one of the guys when I took notes had JJ a pair next to his name, and 22 pairs were visible later (indicating that he was an inexperienced weak player).

So it can be used very deceptively.

Poker is fundamentally a game of incomplete information. Other than ego, what would be the reason for providing information to your opponents?

I don't care about any badges but I have played against players with EPT badges who literally don't understand basic strategy and players with 22 who are super strong.

I don't give much importance to the badge presented, I try to make my game, analyze my opponents, plays, and others, sometimes it's just pressure or lies

Hahaha, the first moment when PS introduced these badges about hand numbers, I choosed the lowest. It is so funny for me. What shall this mean at all? I played a certain number of hands at PS, right? But it will not take into account the numbers of hand that I played at other rooms or even in life games.
If I look at me, I started to play mainly at PS since max 2 years and before my main room was 888.
But I love to show my lowest badge. Shall they all think, that I am a gold-fish :D

The fact that a player has emblems such as a JJ doesn't mean he plays well, I've played at tables where the villain had a 99 emblem and the guy played very poorly, limped in almost every hand and paid a lot with low pairs . These emblems are just for show, they don't really say what the player is. Of course, in this environment there will be players who are really regulars and who play well, and that who will tell me is the statistics by the hud I use. Good luck to everyone at the tables.:)

The more hands, the more pair. In general, I dream of hooking the badge of the winner of the tournament of some event:):):)

I have never shown my badges either, but it does sometimes make me think about my opponent differently if they have a high or tournament badge.

Not sure why mine shows the badge but normally I would never put it up. It really does not mean anything to me nor do I pay attention to it. Whats funny is the badge it shows is not really accurate to me. While I cant play for real on there anymore, the info it displays is not even close to accurate,

I keep mine hidden, I don't think there's much benefit in letting your opponents know how many hands you've played or if you've won a big tournament.

Obviously some people have 22 or 33 just for the joke of it and if I ever got to the amount of hands that unlocked AA I might have to display it as a show of pride (or degeneracy) but other than that I usually try and give villain as little info as possible to make every situation as hard on them as possible

Everyone who knows how to play wants to be perceived as a beginner player if they are among uknown players. Players badges is a tell in itself by this logic :p

I totally agree. The only possible exception would be if I won an EPT (for example) - I do see people with those badges on PokerStars. But the others don't really have the same kind of prestige as that one.

Plus, if you observe people at your table, you can sometimes pick up on who's paying attention versus who's button clicking. It's all about adjusting and counter-adjusting to others at your table.

I don’t really see the point of these “badges” so I just keep it turned off.

I think the "choosing" of badges says more about the player than the actual badge,,,, picking the lowest says more than players think. :deal:
