For those who play on poker stars .... we all start at level Bronze.
Then if you want to work your way up - the next level will cost you !
Of course. You now need to play in cash games, tables where you play a variety of games, or pay to play in tournaments etc.
The problem I found after I made the decision to invest in this was that after achieving the next level ... it was only for a limited time.
They let you stay at the new level for one month.
You then need to keep paying to play to keep that level, and pay to play a lot to work up to the next level.
They said that you get 100% more benefits for the Chrome level , well - the only thing I noticed was that I was allowed to go in the freeroll for Chrome on Saturdays.
Would have been a lot more fun if I would of been Chrome permanently.
So, when I was not able to get into the game each Saturday , I could of tried for the next one - then I found out I was bumped back down to Bronze.
So, unless you all would like to keep dumping cash into your account to play ... I personally think Bronze is just fine. I play a few cash games to earn enough stars to go into the Bronze game - which is 7 stars buyin.

Good Luck all who go for the next level in Poker Stars ,as the software has a way of letting you win very few times to get to the next level.
Be prepared to keep forking out $40 + every month as that is about how much you need.

The rake goes towards your coins as far as I can tell! Cash games are probably the quickest way to pay more rake in a shorter time. But you pay the rake whether you win or lose! I wouldn't be too concerned with climbing the ladder just try and concentrate on playing good poker and whatever happens! There are plenty of cheap tournaments to enter if you were only achieving chrome for the tournaments!

pokerstars just announced it will change their VIP Program.
Ìts not released what exactly will happen but as far as i understood there will be no need to "grind" anymore, as the monthly Challenge(Goals) will be vanish and instead some kind of Chest System will find its way in.

Sounds like more of a deal for Casual players

Maybe someone should start a discussion Topic about that.

On 888 once you reach a level you never drop, you can only go up.
Of course every so often they will move the bar for what you get for the levels, but so far it has only been once in about a year and a half.

The bonus that you receive for being chrome over bronze is that you receive more star coins.

I would focus more on playing decent poker rather than what level I am at, levels are just decided by how much you spend, not how good of a player you are.

Same goes for at the table. Don't judge players talents by their level.

Monthly VIP status is a common practice among pokersites, so I dont think theres much to complain about. Yes, 888 levels stay permanently, but you gotta reach level 30 (!!!) to start to have any meaningful benefits from your VIP level.

You're right. I've seen some silly moves by gold stars and above.

I was surprised to see a supernova playing at my table in the pokerstars elementary level freeroll the other day. He/she is currently in 7711th place after playing 35 games. I found it fairly easy to get enough points to proceed to next month’s high school level but this “poor” player is struggling.

i only need 1 (actually 2) more level to hit silver star this month ( but its not worth at the time because its the end of the month) so i would be down graded to chrome again. and next month i would be already chrome because it hit the half of the levels to keep it, i only need it to grind the freerolls every saturday

Yeah that's understandable. As I was saying I my thread yesterday though, I may end up switching to 888 because the freerolls seem to be better, especially as you don't lose your level so it would work out better in the long run, but then I prefer pokerstars software and MTTs

right , I was not impressed after spending the time and money to get to Chrome, and they downgraded me after less then a month.
So, I just play for fun now , and maybe the odd cash game / or tourney

The good thing about the challenge for me was I earned enough stars to play in the bronze game on Sat - if I am not busy cooking ( my name is cook2cards) Or I can chose to play the deal - and actually have won a few times in that

I may download 888 again , they did have more freerolls, and some features on it
However , if anyone wants to play strictly for fun and I mean free and for fun - I found Replay Poker , a web based game - no downloading and it is a no pressure fun way to play - if anyone would like to join you can message me and get 10k free chips.
You can work on your skills , and not lose anything other then free chips. Makes for a fun game and chatting to the other players.

that actually sounds better , right now they have the spin and go, and card challenge , however you pay more then the prize you win each time as it says Up to - and of course they will only give the min pay out .... 50% or more of the time for wins
