Never happen more draconian restrictions worldwide by governments against their citizens is more likely than letting adults make their own choices,rules from region to region have a serious amount of variance in them doubt that will change.
Then certain sites just do not provide a service in certain regions complicating it further whether it is legal or illegal makes no difference if can not use it and log in.

I would say taxes. Governments want their money and a big winner online has relative anonymity.

Yes, gov'ts need money more than ever. Pot is being legalized so gov'ts can get their hands in the cookie jar, maybe poker will follow. It would be nice.

I think that in 10-20 years, poker and other games of chance will be legalized in most countries of the world. Given the development of Internet technology and online gaming, this is simply obvious. At least I don't see any significant obstacles to legalization in the next decade.
