A month ago, party poker banned players from my country and yesterday the same happened with Bat at home poker.Does someone know why this happened and can those decisions be changed in the future? Is there a possibility for that to happen in some other poker sites? If there is,I am moving to another country. :frown:

Usually a poker site would ban individuals who repeatedly broke the rules specified in the user agreement, at it is a decision of last resort. Banning players simply because of their country of residence makes no sense and would be a terrible financial decision for the company. I think it is much more likely that the Serbian government made the decision not to allow its citizens to gamble on those two platforms anymore.

It supposed to be discussed right after the closure for Serbian players but personally i don't believe something will change because it's been more than a month since Serbia initially got banned.

Actually Party Poker rep explained that it was a statistical and marketing decision which is the lamest explanation I've heard recently. Marketing decision in my understanding would be at least a form of a promotion in order to attract more players, marketing decision is unlikely reducing the numbers of players on network. And statistical, wow, Serbian players must have been withdrawing a billions from their network which is inappropriate in a way - even more unlikely than first reason mentioned above. And there were no governmental reasons from a Serbian side mentioned.
It's like you're dumping your partner after many years of successful relationship with an explanation - i don't why

I agree with you 100%, banning all players from a country is unprecedented and looks very bad from an ethical standpoint, even if it somehow made financial sense.

The Serbian government is slowly ejecting all online gambling platforms and making room for one or two who will of course pay taxes for the service. Simply, PP and Bet at Home is not responsible for the current situation.

I read something about this. I will try to find the article for you but it answers your question. I just do not recall the reasoning.

I reside in another country where Party Poker is now unavailable. On the Party Poker site they simply state they no longer offer service. Frustratingly, several other poker sites do offer service, even though technically under the law it is a grey area.

I cannot speak for Serbia but can for my home domicile, but might pose a similar situation could exist.

In the first place you have local politics in play which want to present a 'moral' face to the world. Therefore casino's are officially banned whilst the entire country knows a huge underground network of illegal gambling activity takes place- including casinos.

As regards online poker sites themselves, I presume some are 'diplomatic' in business and find a way to maintain a discreet presense (anyone with such real world experience will know what I imply). I presume other companies that do not provide service fall into one of two categories. Perhaps they were unsophisticated, tried to enter the market, had little idea of business in such an environment, ticked off the local authorities and were banned. Or, when they were faced with certain demands and took the moral high ground and decided to withdraw.

As I said, no idea of the local politics in Serbia, but did find it interesting that Vuk011 above noted there was a tightening/restriction of this type of business, with a couple of players potentially left when the dust settled 'paying taxes'.
