...so after a 7th place, then a 2nd place in a 50K Short Deck High, Phil Ivey took down the second of the 50K Short Deck High Rollers after getting heads up with Michael Soyza in Sochi.

Now they are playing the 250K High Roller.

While the edge sorting fiasco was something Ivey brought on himself, it's a shame that essentially it's pointless for him to play within the US as his winnings can be confiscated. Common sense could have been applied by both sides regarding a fair and equitable settlement in that dispute but both sides were bloody-minded.

Could no one step in and broker a deal? He is a genuine poker superstar and he should be playing in US casinos also.

Ivey lost 300.000$ for some stupid bad beats . Losing with AA vs J10o preflop ?? Then LOSE HIS QJ vs J10o on Q9J flop all in ?? Again with J10o ?? If it was actually a online game many would say rigged , rediculously rigged game :D . I have seen a poker video with most live crazy bad beats , most where in PartyPoker live events , LOL l like quads vs quads , LOL :)

Anyway , good to see him coming back and have some success , wish him the first position next time he tries on a tournament :) He's oneof the kind :)

He got first place in the very next short deck tourney a few days later!

Regarding the bad beats, that's short deck for you. A compressed, high variance 'gamblers' game. It took off in Chinese circles because wealthy players wanted to take the perceived edge away from pros. Obviously, strategy is a factor but often hands are going to explode in your face none the less.

Does he get to keep any of the money?

I believe he keeps it all as it is offshore winnings.

However, that does not mean he can ignore whatever rulings the court have made regarding reimbursing the casinos (though the specifics seem hazy at the moment) - but at least they cannot show up and grab the purse from the casino cashier.

Here is an example for those who say that there are no bad beats in live poker. Try playing with a short deck.

I agree it is a shame something different couldn't be done. Ivey is a living legend. So far as the bad beats go, that is poker. He came back and won the next one and he has 21.9 million in life time earnings.Another second place is nothing to be too upset about.

Agreed!

Regarding the casino dispute, both sides (casinos and Ivey) had a case to make in the court of public opinion. But the ruling has been made so its largely immaterial what we all think.

However, in a time where there are great players, (perhaps technically better than ever before) poker lacks characters and Ivey is sat on the sidelines, which is absurd. I just pray someone with clout in the 'casino world' steps up and attempts to bring the parties together to negotiate an amicable settlement, with Ivey being allowed to play freely.

were any of the games broadcasted?

I'm sure there are some videos out there now but I did a quick search on YouTube and nothing came up right away. Maybe on Twitch? or PokerGo? (not sure if they broadcast PartyPoker)
