Nik Airball, also known as Nikhil Arcot, has recently been one of the notable poker players in some significant buy-in poker streams. He has been described as 'a brash, obnoxious, and obscene opponent who seems to play not for stacking opponents, but for the opportunities to needle and bully on camera' as found in the article by Bob Pajich, linked below. There appears to be a lot going on lately with Nik whether it's the Hustler Live Stream or the possible upcoming Heads-up match with Matt Berkey or the poker Twitter tirades.

Based on some of the information presented, what does Nik Airball really bring to the poker table?

Hello, Shelley.
Thank you for this post.🌺🌺🌺
What can I say: in poker, as in life, there are different people. Arrogance, arrogance, lack of education and the lack of good manner are disgusting, but such people will always be and I am sincerely sorry that this is so.

He reminds me of Colby Covington in the UFC or a villan in WWE- its just an act to try to build his brand. I wouldnt expect him to be playing Polk or Jungleman heads up for rolls anytime in the near future. There is a big difference between Berkey11 and the top tier players.

I've watched Nik Airball live at Doug Polk's YouTube channel talking different poker related things and honestly the guy just seems like a showman and not a bully and/ or bad person and looking how many people that play in this games backed him when Garrett Adelstein 'attacked' him on Twitter- it might just be that, also the fact that he's invited at all this big games can be another argument that he's not a bad person(and it's definitely not because he's a 'whale' with unlimited funds)... also, the poker streams can be quite boring and with 'characters' like Nik it can attract way more viewers and be more fun to watch...

Nik Airball is an odd and contentious character, but then is this not precisely what VertuccI and Feldman are looking for at Hustler?

Airball claimed he was/is an investment banker and there does seem to be some employment history to back this up. However it was somewhat vague and saw him flitting from one job to another for a few years mainly connected with the aeronautical industry, if I recall. That said there are two sides to him and he did appear fairly generous (and perhaps naive) in that he would loan funds to players who were short and then would stake some newbies without much due diligence (some murky stuff went down when Robbie Liew and pals showed up). But obviously Airball frequently acts like a douche at the table and my assessment of such folks is believe what they are presenting you - it ain't an act.

I think it's more interesting to look at the bigger picture and what streams like Hustler's, and now even The Lodge are scheduling - which would appear to be an element of chaos and controversy. I presume it gets views, but not for me personally, and I don't think I am outlier. There are those who love the Tony G shenanigans, the Phil Hellmuth melt downs and cuss fests etc. but they are of little interest to me. I think they appeal to a certain type of existing player but I do not believe they bring many to the game (I find the shop worn argument this attracts outsiders ludicrous).

But it was odd when Vertucci declared no cheating had been proven at Hustler's, that Robbie (and Rip etc) had just disappeared from the stream. But Robbie showed at Live At The Bike, and then over at The Lodge (which was peculiar as Doug Polk had initially declared she had to have been cheating). Then of course (same series) Nik Airball showed at The Lodge also, with Dan Cates himself historically embroiled in some sketchy situations...and of course mayhem followed. So now streams and even content creators such as Berkey appear to be courting the notoriety with the clashing personality route. Whatever. My interest had been waning regarding these streams, but it has now plummeted to watching little more than highlight clips - they are more than enough.

And to be frank, if the controversial streams are firmly at cliche at this point they just get me more excited to see the next Triton, WPT or best of all EPT event to be staged.

I agree. There seem to be a lot of controversy almost for the sake of controversy going on in this environment now. On Doug Polks channel we have seen players come on his stream and attack each other. And Polk has also posted a "hand analysis" video, where he attack Matt Berkey in a way, which does not have the same touch of humour, as we were used to see from Polk before. I dont find any of this interesting either.

i learned about 'how deep the needle ' back in the late 70's.... nothing new about it. as poker became a bit more respectable negative table behavior came to be penalized( stalling , profanity, insults ,dealer abuse , etc ) and it was, thankfully . now with for profit streams trying desperately to gain exposure + viewership almost anything seems to be allowed once again .its all about the ratings .

I never heard of Nik Airball until recently when I saw a VLOG from Rampage. Rampage had one over half a million dollars that night and most of it came from Airball. Shortly after I saw a video in YouTube (may of been same game) were Airball lost about 3/4 of million dollars in one session. The guy must have a huge bank roll to lose large amounts of money like that.

I've found that modern poker viewers (younger ones) are easily bored watching poker. Part of this is because so many modern pros are very boring and without personality. This gives rise to guys like Airball. Many find him entertaining simply because he speaks and is very rude and confrontational. He makes Matusow look like Mother Theresa. The younger crowd also likes rudeness and general douchebaggery. It's somewhat a reflection of modern society.

2 Idiots going at it.
If there was a way in which they both could lose, that's the option I'd vote for.

Seeing that short clip of them when Berkey approaches the other guy while he's playing at another table, puffs his chest out, tryin' to walk like he's the 'Latman' while the other guy gives him a shove. Guys... you look like you're in grade school ffs. Zero respect for both of them. It's difficult to pick which one is worse than the other.
