must be nice to be able to throw fits in 10k tourneys when you have nothing to lose cause you are playing with pokerstars money

That's one of the more ignorant things I've heard lately. Do these pros get paid by the sponsors? Yes. But most have worked very hard to get where they are today. You really think he just gives PS a ring and says hey I need the the money for this Buy-In and this Buy-In ect? The money is generally coming out of their pocket it's just weather or not they can afford to do stuff like this or not.

Tournament play should always allow for a "quick" break by any player once during play where play at that table would be suspended for a set small period of time like 5 to 10 minutes max. DN was a little stupid to just blow his stack because of it though.

while he did a good job showing his disdain for the rule, this move, ultimately, only hurts him.

it's not ignorant, daniel acting the way he did is what is ignorant i think, he would have better donated the buy in to those in need than to not follow the rules and then complain, even if it is dumb rule to him! it is true he had to work his way up but that does not mean he has to become ****y and not be respectful and follow the rules when he gets higher up in the poker world!

What is the rule? Generalised one, or one from the casino in question?

Everywhere I've played, has the in the seat rule but there has always been a fair amount of dealer discretion.

Where do you draw the line? Hand on chair, within a foot, 3 feet, 10 feet etc. It becomes so open to abuse.

Also whilst this might be okay for 1 or 2 hour blind levels, most of us play far shorter levels and faster structures, where preventing time wasting becomes far more important.

Regardless of whether it's a fair ruling or not the way you avoid this situation is by being at your seat ready to play when it's your turn.

I think the rule should be you need to be in reach of the table... The way the rule is now is going to be to controversial... If I bring my chair out to the parking lot is my hand not ruled dead? after all I am in reach of my chair...

no reason to tilt off all the chips...what a waste of money. Go donate 10k at least if you're willing to lose it that easily.

I agree it seems wasteful to throw 10k away like that but it is his money and its better when people with money spend it instead of hog it get that moolah back into circulation

So if he uses it for charity, cars, hookers, or a tilted rebuy its his to spend as long as he spends

You did not see Jason alexander (George Costanza from Seinfeld) at this years WSOP main event? Its either the hair club for men or he is recreating that episode he wore a wig in, lol.

I saw that and couldn't believe it,
so I had to google it, (jason alexander hair was a popular search term).
Found some explanations, that it is a very upmarket semi-permanent hair piece.

Semi-permanent? Didn't they used to call that a wig?

I do think this new rule is a little silly, but I guess they are trying their best to make the game better by adding this rule? I mean, I think that's why they changed it to this. I'm assuming it's to better the integrity of the game. Maybe they don't want people getting up all the time and possibly seeing peoples cards. Or maybe they don't want you to get up as much to keep the game moving..

No matter what the reason is though I don't really get how the rule now is any better than what it was before.. Wasnt it before you had to be there by the last card dealt?

Plus, they should allow people to get up and stretch. I get up and stretch all the time. The way the rule is written they do seem to allow stretching and getting up as long as you are within reach of the chair. --

They should at least give people some leeway until they are used to the new rule

I disagree with this, he is making these absurd rules known to the public. The TDA is trying to fix something that is not broken. I have had the honor of talking to Daniel while I was on the rail of the wsop main event. With the new rules people won't get to do that any more players are afraid to stand up. They have to keep their ass glued to the chair.

To be fair, lets not assume that is the case, although those are DN's exact words. I would not be so quick to carry his water on this one. Many a player drags out every hand they are in, to run down the timer and pressure the shorter stacks. Players get sick and tired of paying a 10k entry fee and watching their stack get eaten away while golden boys like Negreanu waste time doing everything except playing the game. So, the rule most certainly is an attempt to fix something that is broken. "Delay of game" is the problem, the seat rule is the solution.

He most certainly could have pushed his chair back, stood up right in front of his spot at the table, stretching his legs (he claims this was his intent) and all the while staying safely within the rules - but no; he had to push it, see how far he could get. Well, he found out. If you ask my honest opinion, he is not only snobbish and egotistical, he might well be one of the ones causing the game delays and thus the reason for the rule in the first place!

The game is not there so players can talk to fans at the rail.
The game is not there so players can sign autographs during gameplay.
The game is not there so players can catch up on old times with fellow players at other tables during the game.
The rules are not put in place by consensus, with every player getting a say.
The rules are not put in place for sheets and giggles.
The rules are not put in place just to piss off DN.

If he continues to rant and rave like a spoiled brat, you have to wonder if delay of game is his real motive here. I mean, come on; he so respects his fans that he disrespects the other players by showboating with them on the rail during the game, maybe in order to avoid having to spend time with his adoring public before and after the game? Spare me. More likely, he wants a way to delay the game without looking like that is what he is doing. Why else pitch such a hissy fit? I guess it could be a monumental ego alone, who knows.

I think the kicker might be Phil Hellmuth; if he isn't whining on and on about it...

A few thoughts:

1) If this really was a re-entry tournament, as someone said earlier, this "tilted" move he made is almost a stroke of genius (unless he was actually tilted, of course lol). Get everyone to think you are so pissed you want to quit so you get a call and a chance at a double up.

2) I think one little tweak of the rule can actually make it beneficial to the game: muck if the player is out of his seat when the action reaches him/her, not when the first card comes off. There's nothing more irritating than a player delaying action in a tournament because he or she is pre-occupied. Hell, I spilled hot coffee on myself in a tournament and still didn't delay the hand.

3) Saying the rule needs changed because a player may need to stretch his/her legs seems ignorant. It's not like every player is in every hand. There is plenty of time during hands in which you folded to get up and stretch for a minute.

4) The fact that he knows the rule (clearly he does since he's taken issue with it before) makes him look worse. He may not like the rule, but he's not above it and is required to follow it. I hate when players use the excuse "I PAY SO MUCH MONEY TO THIS CASINO BLAH BLAH BLAH" to try and sway a ruling in their favor. Just because you may contribute more money to an establishment than most players doesn't mean you get to break rules and get away with it.

Good for Dan ! It was a bad rule - sounds like an old one that needs reviewing. Just wish I could afford to do a stand like that.
I have seen many players stand - one needs to stretch their legs if they are in a lengthy tourney, and if you are within reach of your chair - you are obviously able to be able to play a hand standing ....

I don't know which is worse; a society that insists we cannot be confident or get a girl without hair, or the young $%^&'s that have a full head of hair and shave it all off, lol.
