As of yesterday, MGM has mandated that all employees of MGM must wear face masks while indoors, whether they have been vaccinated or not vaccinated.

Do you think MGM (and possibly other casinos/resorts in Las Vegas) will enforce patrons and employees to wear masks while indoors, soon? If so, thinking ahead, what could this do for the wsop 2021?

It depends on how fast this present uptick escalates. From last year epidemiologists predicted the level of full/herd immunity needed would be missed due to the deliberate actions of a section of the population.

As of this week US infections (mainly Delta) have been heading to 50,000 a day and deaths climbing to 500 a day- all predictable.

So yes, there is a strong chance that punters will have to wear face masks in doors at casinos and at the WSOP, but so what? Its barely an inconvenience and anyone complaining for political reasons is someone no one should take seriously period. A rate of infection will be with us for the foreseeable future. That does nor mean which should not try to mitigate the effects and mask wearing in one of the simplest and effective things anyone can do .

They totally should, the amount of people who still won't get vaccinated are staggering. Delta is hitting vaccinated people as well, so no reason to not have a mask mandate. france apparently is now requiring vaccinations for travel/schools etc. They got tired of the people doing the right thing being penalized and moved forward. Won't happen in the states, but if businesses (i.e. casinos for this discussion) at least require the bare minimum of masks, will help reduce the spread at least. My whole family is vaccinated, but if cases start up where i live, would mask back up no problem. i'll tell anyone that covid was best thing to happen for me, I didn't get sick a single time in 2020 or this year & i work all over the place fixing computers.

I'd be happy to sit at a table playing poker with everyone masked, don't see any reason to cancel wsop do you?

Casinos in Nevada - a perfect storm? People from all over the country/world flocking to an under-vaccinated state to sit for hours and days shoulder-to-shoulder breathing recirculated air with people who may or may not be vaccinated. Add to that liquor, a climate and gaming/show culture that encourages indoor activities, and a "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" attitude.

One thing's for sure - when the folks leave Vegas, the virus isn't just staying in Vegas.

Sounds like the MGM CEO has his head screwed on correctly. Here's hoping the other Casinos follow suit.

Will it affect the WSOP? Of course it will.

Is there a quick solution? Yes there is. Everybody get vaccinated! This has been dragging on for over a year now with 200 million people infected and 4 million people dead worldwide.

Just as a follow up - Rich Eisen the famous sportscaster was on cable this morning explaining after being fully vaccinated (February) he recently contracted the Delta variant.

He was about to visit Europe with his family, got a little sick, tested, and then went down sick with Covid 19 symptoms. He bounced back fairly quickly though he passed to to his young daughter also. Eisen stated the obvious. It had hit him profoundly and he therefore intended to wear masks in any questionable situation from now on, period.

I think sensible people will take sensible measures in a variety of circumstances.

Polls show for example (contrary to broad government advice) that a majority of Londoners traveling the The Tube will continue to wear masks regularly as it is obviously one of the worst places to spread colds and flu let alone coronavirus.
