This is a bad thing not only for poker stars but for whole industry and for all online poker players. 1.3 billion bunch of money maybe this not kill Poker Stars but affects anyway and players as well. So not so good news I think for online gambling business and especially for PS and clients.

I'd happily wager that this $1.3b bill is passed onto Stars' client base rather than being paid from the company's assets. LOL.

~EDiT:- if you'd ever wondered why you got three rewards chests in a row with nothing besides a smattering of stars coins... LMAO

Just wrong. Just a money grab in my opinion. Like poker stars damaged the state.

That's a lot of money and I wonder if there are any other states that will be following suit now that this case was successful. I would recommend not letting your cash balance on any poker site getting too high before cashing out---this is not good news

What a lot of money. I think the loss of such money by the company will give a new impetus to invent additional extortions from the players from the PS. I think no new freerolls for large sums from PS should be expected in the near future.

I have absolutely no doubt. Free spins in the casino, which give a few cents, are constantly falling out of my boxes, bonus games have dropped out a couple of times, but the game for some reason crashed and the spins stopped and gave nothing. I wrote about this problem to the support, but they told me that I needed to reload the site and re-enable the game in the slot machine. Naturally, nothing helped. More to me, the support answered nothing to my numerous appeals, apparently they think that they figured out the problem)).
For this year I do not remember what they would give me money in boxes, only some nonsense.

Well according to Pokerstars parent company Flutter even if the ruling stands they are expected to only be liable for $18M which was the revenue over the period.

If this ruling stands it will have far reaching implication for US players. I would not be surprised to see a few rooms pull out of the US markets.

Kentucky is a backwards state that is unable to realize meddling in people's lives is a bad thing. They have too many who believe that the church should dictate the life of everyone and not enough common sense in the government to realize that this causes more harm than good. I lived there for 2 years and was happy when I moved.

Now, here is a bonus. President Obama is a poker player and did behind the scenes moves that helped protect players when he was in office. Many of the people who respect him are going to be in positions of authority, so this should help on the national level. I also do not see this surviving a federal trial run, as even the conservatives will see this as overreach.

As for the ruling, this will cause a further headache for all poker sites making moves inside the US. That means sites like ACR will be insulated in many ways. They could get sued, but if this ruling goes federal, it allows many people the chance to step up and help destroy it. Without Republicans in power, people like that fellow from Vegas who is a pain will have little recourse in his pushes. I would say that this is not done.

I really see this as when poker is back in the US these sites will not open to players from Kentucky. If this spreads will kill Online poker in the US by choice of poker rooms not taking the risk.

The PokerStars operated illegally within the boundaries of the state. 34,000 residents lost money, but someone got it? Other players have become richer turns out. And no one will take away their winnings.

The case and the ruling (through to the Supreme Court) were a farce. Yes, online was a legal grey area, and yes, I genuinely think that the matter needed true regulation.

But the idea PokerStars somehow stole 300 million (an amount described as Kentucky residents losing) is a joke. The idea this case then could 'multiply' the losses as time passed is unbelievable.

That said just note the hypocrisy of Andy Beshear, the present day governor (his executive cabinet secretary, Brown is the party who originally sued PokerStars). Andy Beshear during his gubernatorial run campaigned for legalized gambling in Kentucky, both online and the bricks and mortar variety.

You can't make this up.

In a recent ruling, The state of Kentucky won a $1.3 Billion dollar lawsuit against Pokerstars Full article on cardplayer. Tell me what do u think of the ruling and what will be the impact of this for the industry.

https://www.cardplayer.com/poker-news/25559-kentucky-wins-1-3-billion-lawsuit-against-pokerstars

Not an expert in lawsuit but not only this is injustice at high level, calling (as gov) for 1.3 billion for the $300mil people willingly deposited and lost. Besides, how on earth they will even get the 1.3 from a company that its not operating at all in Kentucky anymore. Like if PS doesn't pay...what? You ban PS in Kentucky? You take their property in Kentucky? Ridiculous...

It probably means less poker players and deals. I just hope that huge amount of money is put to good use.

I think most of this is related to the black friday stuff. From the article it looks like its been ongoing since 2010 and finally settled after several appeals.

Maybe this makes some sense out of why Pokerstars has been treating their customers like utter dog sh1t for the past few years & raping them for every cent they can.

Of course KY won the lawsuit -- they have horse racing to protect. There was no surprise there as online poker becomes more popular there will be more lawsuits from states to keep gambling within their state and them collecting the state gambling taxes . . . Pokerstars should have expected these lawsuits.
