The most popular class at Johns Hopkins University’s most recent intersession program was a crash course in Texas Hold’em. The goal of the class was to turn novice players into above-average Texas Hold’em players in just two weeks. The class drew nearly 250 students willing to learn the intricacies of the game a little better.

I would gladly have joined this course. Would you?

Of course! Why not? Having a little competition and having a goal is always welcome.

No doubt everyone would like to have a crash course. But I'm thinking why hurry, especially for training you need practice and without playing this game there is no way to achieve good results.you can quickly learn the basics of poker and not more than two weeks to become a player of average status is simply not real unless of course you are a child Prodigy.Maybe I'm wrong about something and behind the times but in poker, many situations occur at the table during the game and to study them without practice is simply not real. And I wish them good luck on these courses!I would like to play with them in the tournament!

I have downloaded the syllabus. If we use each grouping most of it will be found online and we can use it to upgrade our game skills.
Thanks Shells:)

If in all universities they offer a class called "Poker: Theory and practice" it would be revolutionary. My parents would take me seriously by telling them that I would study poker at university, they would be proud.

Leaving the imagination aside, I shared many of my afternoons at the university playing poker with friends, of course it was forbidden to bet money inside the university, but that was never an impediment.

As an additional data, in universities you can find classes on "Game Theory" where they discuss poker but focus on "mathematical statistics".

Might be worth it for everyone to check out. I wonder what areas of the game the course is going to be focused on? I still believe the best way to learn to play is to go to the casino or hop in online and learn the ropes that way.

Absolutely

Who would not love to sit through some awesome situations in poker with what should have been a very well done crash course. Would have taken the course multiple times just to make sure...lol

Good idea! I was thinking of taking a sneak peak at the course too. I wonder how different a university live course is in terms of the kind of student it draws. I wonder if those students will do better or worse compared to players with the same amount of play experience who studied on their own time.

In these trying times what a wonderful class to offer. With 250 people signing up , obviously it was well accepted. I would love to take the course!

I would definitely participate in the course. Holdem is one of the greatest theories and gameplay to study.
