Vegas is an amazing environment, have you seen some of the documentaries?
From the flood aqueducts to psychology to the financial arts and information technology/security. Flying into McCarran (day/night) and looking at all the livelihoods dependent upon the gambling industry, 1st, 2nd, 3rd...tier. Electrical power is one component (pun intended)!
If Los Angeles can support scooter rentals perhaps Las Vegas can too..and diminish the vehicular CO2 contribution.

I will have to make an effort to watch a documentary on Las Vegas. When I read the article, I have to admit the power consumption was not something I thought about but do now!

But have you ever wondered how all the slot machine games impact the environment in Las Vegas? We have, and discovered that the city’s slots, combined, can contribute up to 540 metric tons of CO2 emissions every day. The numbers are staggering.

City of Lights: How Do Slot Machines Impact the Environment?

Wait - that's JUST slot machines right?

That doesn't include all the bulbs that light up the strip when the sun goes down.

That calculation HAS to be astronomical!

Maybe - just maybe - a slot player can generate the electricity required to run the machine by pulling the slot arm??

This article is food for thought.

That's the way I read it, Mike. Crazy, huh?!

Slot Machines using power generated by someone running on a treadmill to power the slot machine they are playing. No runnies, no slotties.:)

This is interesting. It actually was much worse in the 70's and 80's.

I went to high school in Las Vegas back then, and I remember how the electricity needed to power the light bulbs on the strip was formidable. They had to change. The hotels were mandated to reduce the amount of exterior light bulbs on their amazingly lit up hotels. The Stardust was the one that I remember the most. Its name implies visions of a light bulb for each of the stars in the sky. They redesigned the exterior of the hotel to have more "reflective" elements and dramatically reduced the amount of light bulbs (my guess would be that 1 remained for every hundred they had - but I can't prove it).

This is why the Hoover Dam was such an amazing accomplishment. It's able to feed the grid not just for Vegas, but western Nevada and the neighboring states too!

Satan's Armpit

Vegas uses everyone in almost every conceivable way. Don't get me started... It is just some casinos between meth/heroine neighborhoods. All the money Vegas takes in goes somewhere else. I only know 1 person still enployed and her hours were cut. Stay far away from Vegas.
