This is a discussion on Half of All Americans Support Legal Sports Betting within the online poker forums, in the Poker News and Events section; Poll: Half of All Americans Support Legal Sports Betting
At least 50% of Americans polled, say they’re in support the idea of legalized sports betting.
n Brazil, betting prejudice is very ingrained, so people who decide to spend money on betting are treated as pariahs. As if they had no right to do that. In Brazil it is legitimate to toast money with anything, but with bets, but I am in favor and I make bets, the money is mine and I do what I want
Like many other laws/regulations in the USA, I believe this should be something that each individual state should be allowed to decide for themselves. There may be a few states where the majority of the population doesn't want sports betting, but overall it seems like something the people want.
I think that a lot of the people who are against sports betting are worried about access to betting by minors, but if the state regulated it properly, that would eliminate that worry and the state would make a lot of money off of it, so it seems like a win-win situation.
I'm definitely in favor of legalizing sports betting. If we can play fantasy sports for money because it's a "game of skill" then just let us bet on sports. I'm one of the few who is actually profitable in fantasy sports. Although I'm profitable, I strictly believe I've won based off of luck.
I've never been personally interested in sports betting. But, it seems like something that requires a lot of knowledge and a moderate amount of skill. That makes it way better than lotteries and VLTs which seem to be legal pretty much everywhere, and which would not reward any amount of knowledge or skill. So yes, I'm for legalizing it.
I've never understood why gambling is more regulated when there's some potential for skill/knowledge involved, such as poker, sports, horses, etc., but way more common when there is only luck involved, like slots and scratchers. We allow negative expected valuegambling, but are much stricter allowing when there's a chance it can be positive? Why?
re: Poker & Half of All Americans Support Legal Sports Betting
Well Delaware park says they already have Vegas type betting on sports now. I haven't checked it out yet but I'm sure jersey will be soon to follow now that Supreme Court paved the way. Any state that has casinos I'm sure will be on fast track to get sports betting going. I'm not a big sports bettor but I have no problem with it
I like the concept a lot but I'm pretty pessimistic that the natural incentive to fix games won't eventually emerge. There would have to be a separation of church and state in terms of players and bookies. Vast swells of money leaning toward one outcome over the other doesn't exactly boost my confidence in the integrity of ANY sport.
Referees have fixed games before, that's hardly questionable, but when you have a hedge fund's worth of market motivation to put a thumb on the scale you'd have to be an idiot not to consider it. It's going to be very interesting to see how they regulate it if it becomes legal on a national scale.
I hope that this opens the door and minds of Americans to legalize all forms of online gambling especially bringing online poker back. I believe that if you are an adult you should have the freedom to do as you choose with your money for what entertains you.
Yes i am 100% in favor for sports betting as long the teams and las vegas dont start getting corrupt on us. Pete Rose style. I believe it probably still happens, but not as much in the current state of sports.
