Love him or not, Daniel Negreanu is never short of an opinion when it comes to his views on how poker can be improved or other.

In his latest comments, he discusses how for him, he feels he needs to play against the best to keep his skills sharpened, this has led to him playing some notable heads up games over the past year for example, who can forget his head to head with Doug Polk and his more recent games versus Phil Helmuth amongst others.

What do you think to his views - take a read of the article attached and let me know your views..

To be frank, once it dawned on me a few years ago that Daniel Negreanu seemed more desperate to remain the center of attention than anything else, I started taking most of what he said with a pinch of salt.

DNEG is being paid to promote GG Poker. So when judging the EV of his heads-up match against Doug Polk, we need to factor in, how many new players this drew to GG Poker, and how much leverage this will give DNEG in future pay negotiations with GG Poker. And then it might actually have been a winning proposition for him, even though he was an underdog in the match itself ;)

He has always been pretty good at generating a good old-fashioned poker debate. There will always be differing opinions or sides but that's the beauty of this kind of conversation.

It's generally accepted in any sport or game that playing superior opponents will lead to greater improvement than when opposed by lesser players.

There are some people who just want to play the best poker possible. It doesn't have to be about money. I doubt the mega whales are playing for money.

I mean he’s not wrong in what he said to be the best and stay the best you need to play the best. Playing amateurs at his level would do nothing for his game! Spot on comment imo

I see his point like the old saying goes to be the man you have to beat the man. To be the best you have to play with the best. If all you care about is making money then what do you care who the best is? Making money the easy way is what they are doing. I don’t either side is right or wrong. It all depends on your own preference.

Regardless what the man say, or how big his ego seems. Hes' a great player and at the top of his game. I totally understand his point.

Dnegs is right about some of his opinions on poker even if he is almost always wrong about everything else. In my opinion, and it seems to be the opinion of most pros, except for Phil H. The only way to stay among the elite players is to play in the toughest games. Why? poker strategy changes among the top players. If you compared the strategy of the pros from back in the poker boom days and today, you would not even think you are watching the same game. Percentage of C-bets, bet sizing, amount of check-raising, these are just a few of the things that are completely different.

Don't get me wrong, if you are talking about playing live cash 1/2 or 2/5 at local casino, you can still win with a basic strategy. Once you get to the top of the game, if you do not understand what the players are doing, you will most likely get run over.
