Australia is doing something right since they are now hosting a WPT event to poker players without masks! Now, if the rest of the world could do what they are doing we might see more maskless poker! Right?!

Wearing a mask isn’t a big deal, find a good 3 layer cloth mask made by a local seamstress.
It’s a cottage industry and is helping some small business people get through rough times.
As for wearing them at the poker table I see no difference between masks and people who wear a scarf and wrap their face or someone with a hoodie who pulls the drawstring tight when they are in a hand.
I think masks will probably become part of the poker players garb the same as sunglasses,
Some will and some won’t and the people looking for tells will find other ways to try and get a read.

Australia has happened to have dealt with Covid-19 a bit differently than the rest of the world, so I guess this has helped them get back to some level of normalcy.

Not all of humanity survived forever without masks. Over half a million people died last year - not to mention the millions who died in the past because they were uneducated about simple precautions they could have take to help reduce the spread of infectious diseases.

I mean, masks are a collective safeguard.
We had tons of pandemies and millions of deaths in human history. If australia has the luxury of not wearing them now, its just because they controlled the virus WITH masks and lockdowns, tests and vaccines. Hello, it seems to me from what you write that unfortunately you do not know much about the subject my friend, wearing masks is not an act of cowardice nor is it stupid, wearing masks has saved many lives, as it has also taken them away due to overconfidence of Many in the way we must protect ourselves from this pandemic, as Shells Australia mentions, has handled this virus in a very different way from the beginning, sadly in the rest of the world it was not like that. , and others who perhaps tried were not so lucky due to their geographic locations and borders. It is easier to control an island than to try to control multiple borders and if you have the wisdom and determination to do what you have to do from the beginning even better.

Some time ago in Community Hangout I posed for sensible people habits would change into the future and noted how Japan had for decades encouraged mask wearing in cold and flu season as an act of civility. At this point it should seem rather silly to get onto transport such as the London Underground in the middle of winter without wearing a mask for example.

Last year scientists initially thought the drop in flu epidemics was because many were mislabeling flu as Covid 19. This was not the case and by the fall scientists realized the remarkable drop was down to social distancing and mask wearing. It was an incredible net positive in a time of tragedy. The savings in terms of health costs and work days lost could be massive if people used common sense into the future and wore masks when appropriate - cold and flu season for example.

Each year the wsop is described as a petri dish with all and sundry noting they come away run down and often with colds. There probably isn't a better setting to wear a mask than live poker and I am sure sensible players will continue to do so into the future.

It seems perfect to me that in this case Australia takes a big step when it comes to poker playing poker without masks, that's what poker is like... being able to look your opponent face to face, that's when you really play poker.

I think this great step is fantastic, and hopefully other countries take this great step forward!
