Two-time wsop Circuit winner and founder of the non-profit Poker League of Nations, Lena Evans, is the lead plaintiff in a class-action lawsuit vs paypal accusing them of racketeering for seizing customer funds.

This is not the first PayPal has been in the headlines for seizing customer funds. If you recall Chris Moneymaker was in a very similar situation back in June 2021.

More details of the lawsuit are in the article below.

When one hears the words 'class-action lawsuit' one expects that there is probably hundreds, maybe thousands of plaintiffs. In this case, only three.

I am an individual who likes to read the fine print on almost everything, and PayPal is one of those places where one needs to tread carefully.

I do wish that this will eventually end up in court instead of some hush-hush settlement. It would be a high time for these "user waives all his rights, but we can have his unborn grandchildren" agreements to be tested in court.

I tend to agree with you re: 'tread carefully'. And after reading this article, it's pretty safe to say I won't be dealing with 10's of thousands of dollars through PayPal until I have cleared it with them (not likely to happen in my case - bank transfers work well enough for me). The pages and pages of legalese scare me off, to be honest, and I will usually read what applies to my purposes.

Totally agree, and this also goes for the TOS of some poker sites, which are written in a very similar way. At the core of the issue, how can a private company ever, and under any curcumstances, have a right to money deposited by their customers? If the customer did something illegal, this is a matter for the police and the legal system and not some private company, who randomly happen to have the money in their possession. It really is no more complicated than that.

I have used PP for business reasons more in the past than now. I had no problems with the service....I however did not have a lot of money going back and forth.
I mainly used it for buying computer parts online so I didn't have my personal credit, or debit card used.
Thank you so much for this heads up.

I've had several friends lose funds and have accounts close at PayPal. They do not play fair. It wouldn't have happened if we were using crypto across the board.

Time for a Change

WoW! Thanks for the info!

I haven't used my PayPal account in several years because I don't do much business by internet exchange

but since returning to poker, and knowing many of them use exchanges,
I think it may be time to change my currency handler

any good suggestions for USA?
