I live in canada and last night I bought a 50.00 Vanilla MC Gift Card. In the past I have succesfully deposited onto DoylesRoom without any problems and I tried the same last night. I was denied I called Customer Service and they told me that they no longer accept the card I was trying to use. The card is non-refundable and rather than spend more money on a visa card as the Customer Service suggested to do. I then tried pokerstars,FT,Sportsbook,PacificPoker. with no luck. Anyone know where I can use this type of card to play online? I then tried getting a virtual card with entropay again with no luck the reason for that was that the bank denied the funds. Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks.:)

With the UIGEA going into full effect a few months ago, virtually all credit card options are drying up. We're already seeing those that waited up until the last minute, like All Access and now probably Vanilla, shutting players off. The DOJ has a serious burr in its saddle about illegal gambling, and now that UIGEA is fully enforceable I don't expect many companies will want to keep risking it.

The quickest and best options for deposits/withdrawals have always been through direct checking account deposit/withdrawal. It goes by many names, including eChecks, bank draft, etc. but it's pretty common and very reliable. Not sure about Canada but I would assume they would have something similar for you.

I know some people say they don't have checking accounts, but I can't see why anyone of gambling age (i.e. adults) would not have one. Hell I had my first one when I was like 14, and that was a LOOONG time ago. You can get 'em for free at most banks, and it tends to be one of those things you need to support yourself. And these days you don't even need to bother with checks, just the debit card.

Worst case, the direct bank options get closed off too. It's still not a total loss, we'll just have to revert to mailing paper checks back and forth, or using Western Union or other services. There will always be a way, even if it isn't convenient.

I use Vanilla Mastercard for all my deposits (which are many just read my main thread) on Pokerstars, and I haven't had a problem. I deposited like a week ago no problems. They only time I had a problem was when I got a prepaid VISA, if it says Citizen Bank of Canada and you want to deposit onto a poker site, don't do it!

Yea Vanilla Visa doesn't work. At least not on Pokerstars which I got a $25 one for that specific reason about an hour ago. I play on UB too but haven't tried it yet because for some reason I can't connect to their server atm. Although I can connect to Absolute and they're on the same network, but apparently only take echecks now unlike UB. So I'll see about UB later. I can't use my Wal-Mart money card on PS but it works fine on UB. I've even called UB, because of prompted security purposes after trying to make a deposit, and the service rep put it through no problem. PS doesn't seem to except any Visa card so I don't know why they even have the option available still. I read the Vanilla Visa FAQ and it said you can register the card for "some" internet purchases, but apparently people have complained on the net of that not being true either. I don't know how people got the Vanilla Visa to work when online poker sites are overseas and Vanilla Visa says "Valid only in the United States" on the front of the card. Won't know that until you purchase and open the card. If I saw that on the outer packaging I won't have bothered with it and spent money on it. It does have it in small writing on the upper portion of the packing. "For domestic use only" now that I noticed, but I digress.

I read a few more recent threads on here and some other forums and people said Vanilla Visa was the way to go. Not so. Although one person's post I read, can't remember where, said Vanilla Mastercards work but I couldn't find any Mastercard giftcards at Walgreens. All Visa or AMEX.

After trying and finding out that Vanilla Visa didn't work I did more digging. I've found out many people have been having problems with the card in terms of regular brick and mortar store and online purchases, even within the US. I have yet to try it in a store, but I can't imagine running into anything with it there. On a complaints board, one person even complained about not being able to use the card to get a bus pass and had to go directly to the bus company and swipe the card for it to work. I could've done the more extensive digging earlier, but wasn't compelled to until actually having the card and trying it out. It looks like I'll probably just use it for groceries or just going back to Walgreens and use it there. If Walgreens declines it, I'll show them the purchase receipt and current balance.

^^^ Their payment processors are in the states. No poker fund transfers are initiated overseas. Also, VISA services more than the states, which is why it's still a payment option. PS doesn't keep up with which ones work on which day, it's a moving target. That's up to the CC issuer. VISA cracked down awhile ago on gambling transactions, and they tend to have a little more leverage over their issuers than MasterCard, which has been more lenient up until just recently. Now that UIGEA is in full effect, I don't see any of them working much longer.

Get bank accounts, people! eCheck is the easiest and fastest way to get funds in/out of poker accounts. Then you can quit worrying about it and play poker!

I realize that their processors are in the states and the initiation overseas and that Visa services overseas as well. Like I said I've never had problems with using my Wal-Mart Visa on UB just Pokerstars. How Visa hasn't gotten to Wal-Mart Visa cards yet on UB is anyones guess. Those are pretty much the only sites that I've found to work with a Mac PPC. Those are my two options since FullTilt only works with Intel Macs as of late May.

I have a bank account but my bank won't allow poker site transactions anymore of any kind. I think that's the reason why many people even bother along with prepaid debit cards other than the ones who don't have bank accounts. I don't worry about playing poker on UB, I'd just rather use PS.

Oh yea, update on my last post, the Vanilla Visa doesn't work on UB either.
