Not any that matter, except for a small Island off Mexico called Cozumel. :p But that did actually occur to me, but thought they would have specified the exclusion. Then I forgot to sign up for it, but we'll see.

Not any that matter? What about canada? It's a huge country in North America. They have all rights, darn it.

I used to belong to party poker. They just sent me a check, after all this time, of the money I had on deposit. Of course, they said I owed them dues? Don't understand that one, but oh well.

The bank put a 10 day hold on the check, LOL. Hope it's good!!

Was hoping to rattle the cage of some kooky Canucks. :p Did you see this? [old link~tb] Good luck with the check!! It's probably fine. But I would call/email them for sure to ask about the dues. That's the first I've heard about ANYONE charging dues.

OK u rattled me. The North and South America thing means Canada, not US.. I'm canuck and play at party (not much).. my big prob is bodog, which won't accept canadians because the owner is from here and doesn't want legal trubble at home. So they froze my account when they found out I was canuck (told them I was from chevy chase when I originally signed). I pulled up to 1K out of there before they grabbed my last 30 bucks.. Sniff...

Scooter, I'm not sure you want to ask that question. It sounds illegal or at least like it would go against TOS.

It is my understanding that the law pertains to the financial institutions. They didn't like the banks funding the poker sites. It specifically forbids them from making banking transactions with the poker sites.

In the US it's simple: follow the money and take a look at who needs to get reelected. It's all about appearing to do something so you can get votes and stay in power. God we need congressional term limits (this ONE thing would instantly fix SO many problems).

US is full of gamblers and state sponsored gambling. Don't need to look any farther than the lottery to get overwhelmed with hypocrisy. Never mind all the horse betting, sports betting, Vegas, Atlantic City, and Indian casinos.

Anyways... everything will be completely legal as soon as the government figures out a way to get their cut, moral objections be damned.

Back to the OP's main point... as has already been stated it is perfectly legal everywhere but Washington State to play poker online. And try as hard as they might they will never be able to prevent payments moving back and forth. They can stop all the conventional (or at least most of them) banks and such easy enough but I'm not even slightly worried about the possibility of them eliminating all forms of payment.

Will never understand why the government thinks it's their job to protect us from ourselves. Cause that's absolutely impossible to do, there's always a way to throw away your money (or whatever else).

Perfectly true, but not the only reason.

All of the UK-based poker rooms ban American players because, if they did not, they would be at serious risk of having the plug pulled in Britain, as well as being wanted in the US.

Hmmm. The last I read (at their site), DoylesRoom was UK based. At least that was my impression.

Legislation against US Players Online

I agree ... and perhaps this "approach" might help. 'Tis all over the news of-late that Vegas experienced serious losses at the casinos the first quarter of 2008 and that they are quite concerned. Perhaps the econonic factors, e.g., the savings on hotels at and travel to the casinos (and perceived safety ... avoiding those drunks, etc., mentioned above) or the losses of jobs seen all over are some of the causes??

Perhaps the online players can "save" Vegas?? {smile}

So, when contacting your Representatives, suggest appropriate legislation wherein US players can play online wherein the actual servers are physically located in regions of the Country where gambling is legal, e.g., Vegas. Let the legitimate, properly licensed, casinos in the States serve online "visitors." Change the legislation to open the financial institutions' restrictions enough to allow them to support transactions to/from such locations.

Food for thought.

Doyles changed networks and relocated some months back to escape the ban. Screenshot (today) from front page of their site:

I especially like the posts from Tygran and Itlegacy. Well done! :D

"The only freedoms these idiots care about is the right to carry an automatic weapon." Well hornellfred, GUNS are the reason we are not ruled by the U.K. or any other country for that matter!! LOL

I agree with GabryRox that it's a bunch of crap trying to make online poker illegal. Poker, unlike roulette or craps, is a game of skill more than luck. But "they" think it's ok for people to spend their paychecks on scratch tickets and the lottery....

Keep up the good work, MrMuckets!! We should all bombard our congressmen and senators with phone calls, emails and letters stating our opinions on this online poker matter.

Onward and Upward I say!!! :ridinghor

matercard no good at Bodog

Hi ! I just wanted to say I recently tried to deposit at Bodog with my mastercard and was stopped ( by Mastercard ) . When I called them they said they dont allow their cards to be used for any gambling sites and even if I went to Vegas I couldnt use it inside a casino . Okay so what if I booked a room in a hotel with a casino in Vegas ? Would Mastercard not honor the room as well ? I have an excellent repayment history with them and dont understand why I cant use my card in this fashion.

Go to the top of this page, click on, the sub section Poker Deposit/Withdrawal Metods, click on that and in the top left hand corner is Start New Thread. :D

Just another gift from the US do gooders. The only freedoms these idiots care about is the right to carry an automatic weapon. The legal betting industry (horse racing, casinos, etc) are the ones putting the money in the politicians pockets to make such stupid laws.

There's a reason why our founding fathers were referred to as PURITANS.

When they sailed off on those three boats to colonize this continent, the collective cry from the whole of Europe was........

GOOD RIDDANCE
